I was in a rush, had no meetings and rather than trying to do things really quickly I decided not to shave at all.

OK, got that off my chest. Confession is good for the soul.

And your reason for telling us this is......? I have bring to your attention that this is a shaving rather than a facial hair appreciation site.

I'm sorry, Mark, but youre going to have to give me a little time to get over this.......

........OK, I'm over it.

By the good Lord Harry you Canberrans lead a racy life don't you? Be careful though one day its not shaving and eventually you get dragged down to the degradation of odd socks!

Thought I'd better get in first before Drubbs let the cat out of the bag.

I found some SE blades I brought a while back last weekend too. Thought I might give one off those a go over the break.

See, we CAN do excitement down here!

I think there's some sort of infraction I can issue. If there isn't, I'll issue one anyway.

A man with 251 razors simply has no excuse. None.

Now, now, I don't have THAT many.

Something must be wrong though - I walked away from a deal on a bottom dial 195 today :amazed:

It was for WAY less than $1845 too....

I didn't shave today either. No rush, just no great need. With a three-hour afternoon nap, I didn't give myself much time either!

Yeah I checked some pictures of your razors and noticed you've got a few 1912s and a Featherweight. Would recommend the latter with a new blade. Keep it really flat to your face and just enough pressure to keep the thing to your face. New SE blades are pretty scary. I'm keen to see you get hooked on SE razors so I can watch you start collecting them too. For the price of one bottom dial you could assemble an example almost every SE razor ever produced. So it's relatively cheap too. Come on Mark.....SEs.......SEs....SEs.....SEs....

This is why I LOVE DE shaving!

Got up this morning and did some work around the garden. Weeding, edging, mowing that sort of thing.

Came back in around lunch time. Had a relaxing shower after I'd cooled down a little then it was shave time.

I had a good day and a half of growth - the grey was even obvious! Decided I needed a new blade to mow it down and threw a Feather in the Eclipse Red Ring. This is a great combo and one of the few times I use Feathers.

Being the middle of the day I decided on a cold water shave - very refreshing. What else to use but Proraso - with my 1305 Semogue brush. The feel of the cold razor on a warm day is great.

Two and a half passes later and I have a BBS face - I know because I'm still feeling it as I type. A couple of minor weepers I didn't even feel, the price you pay for using a Feather but the Proraso splash went on with a tingle rather than a burn.

DOES IT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS?

I must post a pic again so they can be identified and I know which one to start with - I will have a go!

'Bout bloody time. 1305? The best of the Smogs IMO. Nice handle.

It was about time - but I got to do it WELL not rushed - different ballpark. I think it was you that got me onto the 1305, and the Chubby 1 now I think about it.....

Edit: also $1800 for a bottom dial fatboy? 2-3 years ago asking $1000 was laughed at, remember that one on ebay for months? Discussing it was a regular talking point.
No idea why people are paying those prices to make them worth so much.
B&B link Gillette bottom dial 195

Because we haven't got one! Does it need any more explanation than that? I can't justify $1800 but I've bid over $500 on razors (and lost!) and paid over $300 for four in my collection. Too much? maybe but....

Welcome to the OTHER side. The technique is different and the feeling is totally different, a bit inotially like holding ablade dirctly in your hand. Only because I have one, the Featherweight is probably a good starting point. Listen for the lovely noise of the blade across the skin. A completely different sensation.

That's it Glen. As we set out to do, we have to keep acting as enablers here. He will get hooked on SEs and assemble the best collection in Australia. See Mark, that's something you can acchieve: the best SE collection in Australia and hence the southern hemishere. Even with your enormous DE collection I doubt that's a title you can confidently claim.

And then the long range plan will be almost complete - He will want to PIF away his DE collection - we will happily accept it - sell it all and be rich - rich I tell you beyond our wildest dreams!!! :)

I think I can claim to have one of the best :D

The challenge is there guys? Anybody care to refute that claim?

No I think you can claim that. There's nobody I know of that can better it. But then again I don't know of many collectors. I think there's somebody in Tasmania that has a pretty impressive collection and also some serious Kiwi collector from memory.
