Mr. Strop
While exploring around Kurama north of Kyoto came across an interesting whetstone that was given to me.
The man who gave me this stone spoke almost no English and I almost no Japanese, so I know very little about it. I gathered from what he was able to communicate to me that the stone was used to sharpen razors. The stone's consistency appears to be of a very fine compressed clay and is reasonably uniform throughout. Its size is 200mm x 70mm x 25mm thick and is mounted on a timber base. The colour of the stone is a khaki to dark yellow. I will take this stone back home with me and give it a try to see how well it works.
