Hi,
New to DE shaving and a member of 'The Shaving Room', a UK forum.
I'm currently using a Gillette HD Rocket, Mitchells Wool Fat Soap and a New Forest Badger brush.
Now, why I'm here......
I'm lucky enough to be coming to Australia/New Zealand later this year. Only four days in Sydney, rest of time in NZ for a family wedding and instead of the usual tat for souvenirs I'd quite like to take home some authentic Aussie/Kiwi shaving soap/creams.
I've already been informed re Faudlings, is there anything else I should keep an eye out for?
When I was last there 20 years ago, pouches made from Kangeroo scrotums were all the rage! Can you still get them? I'm thinking it might me a novel place to keep my razor/blades!!
Thanks in advance and I look forward to reading your forum and getting an antipodean viewpoint on the wonderful (addictive/increasingly expensive) of shaving.
 
Welcome mate!

The Rocket HD is a great shaver and to be honest, you have far better shaving gear in the UK than here in OZ - we mainly buy your stuff!


Mind you, Sydney is a great city and you will L-O-V-E it. I'd suggest you spend your time here focussing on enjoying Sydney and buy your shaving gear back home :cool:

Hello grunter. Please ignore the somewhat unpatriotic mutterings of the above members. In addition to Fauldings you can also get stuff with the delightfully appropriate name of Shave. I think it's both in stick and cream form. There's also Aussie Palomolive (don't know if it's specifically Aussie but it's like the Palmolive you can get in the UK but with no tallow). On the whole that's about it for anything vaguely Australian. There might be some Kiwi stuff that I don't know about. Unfortunately in comparison the kangaroo scrotum is a class product. I'd stick with that if I were you.

Can you bring us some shaving gear....please......

Now that is an idea!

Now 'roo scrotum bags seem a dime a dozen, see here or here.

but for a REALLY unique gift find a place that sells some of these :omg: (that site only does wholesale)

EDIT: just noticed that there are limited edition collectables. Hmmm ....

Fixed it for ya. Plenty of red kangaroos out west grunter. Scrotums you wouldn't believe.

Disregard sampling Aussie shaving stuff, and sample Aussie beer instead!

Yep, i was asleep, the disadvantage of been the other side of the world, can't really update real time!

I will not be trawling all Sydney's back street chemists looking for obscure shaving products, the wife and three kids will not let me get away with that but if I pass a likely looking store I will pop in and have a look.

I was last in Oz (backpacking all over) over twenty years ago and when in Cairns I 'rescued' a huge Cane Toad from the middle of the road (being an animal loving Brit) much to the amusement of the locals. What I did not know at that time was they are a pest and you all aim for them! Suffice to say I didn't rescue another.
I would love to bring some shaving gear over to liaise with a local, however with 3 young kids,stressed wife,tons of luggage and 24+ flights I'll have to give it a miss this time (hope you understand).
However i still need to see my brother in NZ so will be visiting again sans kids so will be easier then.
My plan is to hang around here,get to know you and when I cross the sea again ,in a few years I should be in a better position.

Yeah, it's a pain in the backside.

Those collectable W-shaped scrotum pouches look the real deal. One in 10.000 apparently. They've got 100 on sale so that means they've de-scrotumized 1.000.000 male kangroos. Unless all they do is sell products from males on top of that they would have killed twice that number of females you would have thought. That's insane. I'm in the wrong business.

Yes, not worth getting them offside in Sydney. If it were Pasteur Pharmacy in NYC though - that would be a different thing!

Absolutely, except for the few grumpy buggers we have around to keep us honest - you will get to know who I mean.

We do keep some razors Down Under that are worth looking at if you have a chance, just a little out of the way in Canberra, see some pics here.

I presume that when you came back packing you were warned about drop bears?

Am I the only one who winced and crossed his legs when viewing those products????

There's something about teste trauma that usually gets universal empathy from other males......like whenever you see someone else get hit etc you can very much relate to the extreme discomfort of the situation.

A belated welcome to the forums. Hope you enjoy your trip down here.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to visit your part of the world in Sept/Oct last year. Despite my best efforts (including a visit to Portobello Markets), I didn't come across any vintage shaving gear to bring home :-( How do you guys look for such things? Or do you just stick to ebay like the rest of us?

Other than Australian beer (Coopers is a safe bet for something readily available, if not there's plenty of craft beers now), I would really encourage you to sample as much Australian beef as you can. I ate beef in every country of the UK when I was there, and whilst there's no doubting there's some nice dishes to be had (really enjoyed my haggis and black puddings!) a good Australian steak is hard to beat.
