I am using my own.
we have a small soap making business specialising in cold processed Castile soaps. Been doing it for almost 20 years.

I have been using one that we have been selling for many years but now I am thinking that I can improve on its formula so made some variations yesterday. Wont be able to test them for 6-8 weeks because it takes that long to cure.

Wow, another soap-maker....we also have @Anthony of ShaverHeaven, @Occams of Occams and @Barrister & Mann of...well Barrister and Mann.
Must be so rewarding using your own produce...hey if you ever need an objective tester then I'm we're your man men

Interesting... Castile soaps are primarily Olive Oil based and olive oil is known to kill good shaving lather dead.

So are you using an olive oil based shaving soap or have you concocted your own special recipe of soap to shave with?
 
I got all excited and bought a Merkur 700 Futur, after the first shave I thought I had ripped half my face off. Second shave with it was not better, then I changed the blade from the one supplied by Merkur to a gillette 7 o'clock (green pack) and was much happier, didn't seem quite as aggressive.

Also got a Muhle R89 and I am much happier use this but I am still experimenting. Last night I tried the cheapest DE razor I could find on Ebay ($2.50 delivered) and was surprised how well it worked.

Yes Monsta_AU I did notice some discussion about soapmaking - will be to join i n future ones.

The lemon myrtle scent would be fabulous in a shaving soap! It must smell a treat and be wonderful in Spring/Summer indeed. [emoji106]

I'm not so sure the lather would match the quality of the product you are trying to achieve. Olive oil is terrific for the skin; it really helps soften and moisturise. But it's not known for its latherability. As you said - you've started venturing into traditional shaving - so you'll soon find that your lather won't match other shaving soaps.

But you've mentioned you've started tweaking it. So all the best with it and I look forward to hearing how you go. [emoji106] As you're an experienced soap maker, with quality products, it won't take you long to nail it I think. [emoji1]

Nope God's Own Country down the South Coast of NSW -think cheese, think Bega. Nice spot indeed - used to camp not too far out at Bournda - some great memories that I'll keep for as long as I can keep the dementia at bay (...hopefully until next Friday?)

P.S., be super keen to see a video of the lathering of your castille soap if you can point me to one...
