Titan ACRM-2 T.H.60 and Edge Longevity

Mr. Strop
I was chatting with a Japanese friend last week and as gentlemen tend to do, the conversation got around to discussing our straight razors. My friend had recently honed up a new Titan ACRM-2 T.H.60, finishing on Jnats. He loved the first few shaves but then found the the edge quality quickly fell off.

I have honed up over twenty of these razors but was unable to offer my friend any guidance. All my T.H.60s have been finished and maintained after every shave on diamond pasted balsa. As such, my edges never has a chance to show any deterioration.

This got me thinking. I needed to see/experience for myself if T.H.60 edges do quickly deteriorate. Fortunately I have a couple of identical T.H.60 SRs lying around, One is finished and maintained on a hard black Arkansas and the other on diamond pasted balsa. I don't have any Jnats so I will use these razors both with a HBA finished edge.

Black tail is HBA and the clear tail is diamond pasted balsa. To get both edges the same I have lightly jointed the edge of the clear-tail and re-finished it on the HBA stone. Tomorrow I will shave with both to ensure that their edges are about equal in quality. I will then spend 5 days shaving exclusively with the black-tail (only clean stropped before each shave) and the clear-tail next Sunday to determine if the black-tail has any noticeable deterioration.

More reports on this comparison will be posted in this thread.
