What blades to try with Rockwell 6S

With my 6S arriving any day now I'm interested to hear blade and plate combination suggestions from everyone.

My favorite combo so far with my Merkur HD has been with a feather. Although I spent a few months with Astra Platinums and used a few Voshkod and Silver Blue's as well.

Feather has been the best for me with the caveat that the first shave on a blade can be a touch rough and I can't shave daily with it as my skin is too sensitive.

Fire away!

DSDF (paste and cut initialism for ymmv, different strokes for different folks). I love permasharp supers, rapira chrome, rapira platinum lux, vintage Polsilvers. Astra greens and voskhods are also nice. I’d give whatever you like a go though mate.

It's got to be Derby's all the way mate :ROFLMAO: Jokes aside, I enjoy using Astra's and oddly enough the Rockwell blade matches up pretty well. Expect to hear a lot of audible feedback from the razor so rest assured this is perfectly normal. As for plate cominations - R1 is super mild so you'll be aiming for either R3 or R4 to achieve similar results to say a Merkur 34C. Normally I can use R4 daily with no issues and haven't tried R5 or R6 as of yet. Looking forward to reading your impressions and wishing you many happy shaves with what is a great DE razor (y)

Derbys > Rockwell.
100% true and correct.

Love,
Dav.

We'll see after the 28th shave whether I agree but so far it's holding up fairly well. Can't say much for the neck line but that won't make me quit :cigar:

I also love the 34c and Feather combination
Oddly enough the perfect combination with the Rockwell is the plate 6 with the Astra green.
I say oddly enough as the 34c is a mild razor and the plate 6 isn't.
For a real experience, try the Feather with the plate 6

Great tip @tullfan. I'm yet to use a Feather and seeing how well the 6S shaves I might take up your suggestion and give it a try next month. Sadly it's R4 plate and the trusty Derby blade for me all through February

I wouldn't recommend using the Rockwell blades that the razor comes with. I have used Feathers and Permsharps and these have been great.

My ultimate hope is that I can find a combo that I can get a DFS with every second day without too much irritation.

I've been holding off shaving today just in case it arrives tomorrow.
My thumb hurts from refreshing he tracking on the razor all day!

If you're looking for a perfect balance sword ready for combat at any time depending on your stubble as YMMV, I would recommend you either a Gillette Nacet or perhaps a Perma-Sharp Super

It’s going to depend more on you than the blade, for me personally as time goes by in this area I think it comes down to simply time to adjust to a blade, for newer wet shavers it may take several shaves to find a blades sweet spot in terms of angle and pressure but the more experienced sus it in the first pass making all but the absolute worst blades very capable and blade selection coming down to rotation for lols. I belive the earlier stages build our biases, i for one don’t love astra SP, they where one of the first I used and no doubt my skill let me down but to this day, dispite many great shaves with the astra SP I still am ambivalent about them.

I really want to get more of them actually....

I understand the sore thumb as I'm waiting on my Timeless Bronze OC to arrive, hopefully today? IMHO you should be able to easily achieve a DFS with the R2-R4 plates - without irritation (R5-R6 for BBS). I am yet to get any weepers/nicks using it but saying that my choice of blades has been toward the milder side. It's only really during this Februaury challenge that I have seen neck irritation from using one blade to shave everyday. Hope you enjoy shaving with it and find a good balance, which ever blade combo you decide!

When using say a Feather or Permasharp are you shaving on R5 or R6? Do you find any difference in aggression, blade feel or noise that you wouldn't otherwise notice shaving on the other base plates? Apologies if these are silly questions as YMMV and everybody's skin/beard is different :shame:

I use the #5 plate and it is the perfect one for me - 6 is just a bit too aggressive. Definitely more blade feel and aggression as the plate numbers increase. The "number" is the number on view from the "handle side" of the razor, not the side the blade is in, if that makes sense.

Thanks for the

Thanks for the warning and helpful suggestion - can't wait to give it a go on R5 and try different blade combos

The R5 base plate is the smoothest and efficient shave, I strongly advise you to start using the Gillette Nacet on base plate R5 throughout your whole shave....Trust me you'll love it is smooth as

Haha thanks @SpeedyPC. Oddly enough the Nacet is not in my collection but I'll certainly look to purchase some in time for next month (y)
