I'm in the MWF camp too, I hear great things about haslinger too but I've not tried it.
i feel as though it leaves your face a bit better than it found it.

Well I might be biassed but right now it is APR "Fougere Bourbon Rose" . @todras has knocked it out of the park on this one for me. I want to say "The Santal" (Mysore Sandalwood) but that's something special that transcends a seasonal favourite.

MWF for sure, no competition...However, for the sake of variety, I have a rotation.

MWF is great all year round because it doesn't leave the skin heavy or greasy, just nice and supple.

Are we talking about Fragrance here or soap composition ?

A soap for me has to perform over any fragrance it may have, I guess I have around 12 to 16 winter favorites and they are in my current rotation and can be seen in my SOTD pics.

If we are talking about soaps that take care for your skin I find that shaving soap provides little protection for the face and tends to not leave much behind that is of benefit due to the warm water rinsing most people do after their shaves, Winter is a hard time of year on the skin, I find it tends to be very drying. The use of a balm (After Balm from the Stray Whisker is excellent) or Salve (I run with Chatillon Lux right through Winter) <cough> or indeed an aftershave that is adequately formulated with compounds that help soothe and protect your skin combined with a balm - it is these things that will best protect your skin in winter.

There are some good soaps out there, Barrister and Mann have excellent formulation with plenty of Shea butter and some trace Allantoin which assist during the shave however due to the warm water rinsing, and effort to remove all traces of soap, these compounds (aside from the fats/oils) will be ineffective for the most part post-shave as they need to be of a certain concentration and remain on the face for as long as possible i.e. contained in a balm or splash.

I am running with the Bay City at the moment, it's the currant notes then the dry-down where you get the traditional bay rum, Benzoin, Labdanum, Musks and all the other goodness - man I have got to say I am really glad I did that one, I had wanted for a contemporary Bay Rum without the drastic face blasting kind of Bay-oil added to Rum experience that you get with so many bay rums - other than Bay City, Will's Bay Rum was the only other one I would use.

There are many brilliant new soaps around at the moment e.g. APR.
I will nominate two soaps that I've used the most in colder weather, and that I find very comforting - Shaver Heaven Spiced Mahogany and Vanilla Oak.

Soap composition is what I'm talking about, I assume the others are the same.
I find the fragrances to be nice while shaving but they don't last. I also tend to run every off with cold water and MWF is the only soap I've come across that leaves a little protection, obviously it's not a solution if you are out bush or what have you but I'm guessing it's the lanolin leaves a soothing warmth that just does it for me.
Balm wise I like the facial moisturiser from natio but that's just me.

I'm a Mitchell's Wool Fat fan too although most of my other soaps/creams tend to be summer options. I have some Tabac on the way which I have heard a lot about (mostly good) so looking forward to adding that to my winter rotation.
