Best of 2017

What were the best products for you of 2017? Doesn't have to have been released in 2017 but new to you in 2017. For me I can't go past either my Vulfix 403 Pure badger brush and the Razorock Mamba. Both are exceptionally well made, very well priced and perform exactly as they should. Both are items that I'll not part with.

- Rockwell 6S
- Parker variant
(No surprise as both have head geometry like my favorite razor, merkur progress)
- TurnNshave full moon and angel hair synthetic brushes
- EJ silvertip fibre brush
- Too many soaps to list as I was pleasantly surprised by many but the main top hitter new soap for 2017 was sapo varesini (especially the black dolomiti).

Not sure that I tried a new soap in 2017 that deserves to be rated favorite of 2017. If I had to choose one it would be Wholly Kaw donkey milk formula but it still does not match my top favorites.

Razor would have to be the Wolfman Guerrilla in both the SB and OC variations.

That Mamba would be a very close second to the Guerrilla

Knot of the year would have to be Declaration knot. I think I only had one artisan handle made and it was also very good quality so artisan handle maker has to go to Geoff Huck.

I only joined the DE shaving world in early 2017. So, my experience isn't as deep as many here.
But, here are my takeaways.

Razors:
- Rockwell 6c. Fabulous since day one. Is my reliable fall back.
- SS Colonial General. Gives an impressively smooth, close, yet confident shave.

Soaps:
- Frankly, anything Australian. Seriously, I've seen wonderful things grow in this space in the short time I've been involved. My fallbacks are all Aussie (you know who you are).

Special mentions:
- My trusty Alum block. Keeps taking a beating... But keeps on ticking.
- Our wives and girlfriends. For their patience and understanding... And may they never meet! (ho ho!)

I wouldn't mind one of those Wolfman razors one day. They look the business.

i've only been wet shaving for 12 months so for me its an all time list but my faves have been
razor: rockwell 6s
soap: for performance declaration soaps by a mile with stirling and apr an even second.
splash: apr fresca
lade: 7 o'clock yellow followed by gsb or feather

My picks are:
Razor: Currently most used is the Muhle R89 head on a EliteRazor Handle, but I am eyeing off a Rockwell 6S after seeing @lerenau 's 6C
Brush: Out of my Muhle Silvertip and EliteRazor 2-band badger, this goes to the 2-band. Great backbone. I've considered getting different hair types, but I'll have to do more research first.
Soap: Easily WhollyKaw for performance/feel. Too many for best scent.
Blade: Still so many left to try. Currently I'd say first place goes to Personna Reds. Second place to Feathers

I would buy the 6s if I didn't already have a 6c.

Damn it, now I feel like I should include this. Most of my fragrances were not 'new' to me in 2017, so that rules out most of mine.
  • Tauer - Au Coeur du Désert
  • Pierre Guillaume- PG10 Aomassai
  • Masque Milano - Russian Tea
The PG and MM I intend to acquire later down the road, but I'm not sure when. (I need to use up some of my current supply).

Nice. Those Tauer fragrances come highly recommended.

I have so many, so I will take the easy route and quote peoples here as they have covered most of mine anyway :)

Razor would have to be the Wolfman Guerrilla in both the SB and OC variations.
Razor: Wolfman Guerrilla
not of the year would have to be Declaration knot.

Add the WR1 to that for me personally as I picked up my first one last year. The Guerilla though is an incredibly good razor, Razor of the year for me based on performance alone.
The Declaration Grooming knots are just in a class of their own, they meet all my criteria for loft, density, scrub, 6-aside rugby, flow through and overall performance. Just great!

Tauer - Au Coeur du Désert

Anything from Andy Tauer for me really, his work is incredible.

Scent: Many APR's but my wife's favourite is Winterfell

I retired Winterfell, but I think you may like Winterfall even more, it's a much deeper fragrance with more oud and creamy Sandalwood notes.

Wet Shaving Artisan Fragrance: Chatillon Lux Rose Santal - Shawn is a good friend of mine, but this fragrance is so utilitarian in the colder months, it works with so many things
and has such a nice rounded design. Runner up would be the Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli for the summer months as its so simple, yet beautiful.
Soap: Talbot Shaving - Chad is another friend, a very small batch artisan out of MA but his soap is so incredibly slick. Runner up would be a tie between Declaration/L&L soap base
and the Caties Bubbles Luxury Formula which is fantastic.
Cream: Stone Cottage Soapworks - another small batch artisan who makes a very, very good cream. His Fougère and Hespéride fragrances are two of my favourites.
