Shave of the day 2013

Haha. I wanted to finish the tube. I like to finish things i start. I pushed an astra blade to 6 weeks before giving in and binning it! Lol. But one shave of the Palmolive made me realise just how bad the 'shave' cream is and with so many creams and soaps in my draw i decided i just wasn't worth finishing it.

I enjoy being tight and using something to the last and then binning with the satisfaction that i got my moneys worth!!

Any one else get that? A Finishing Something Disorder lol

Don't know if I've got an FSD but I don't like binning stuff. Though this was seriously challenged with a stick of Valobra. Beautiful lather, appalling scent.

A small sampler pack arrived for me today :-)

That's a pretty good sampler of Gillette offerings, where'd you get that from mate?

What's the scent supposed to be?

I guess I'm lucky so far, I haven't tried anything worth binning yet. Maybe I should go to Woolies and try my luck.

............What's the scent supposed to be?............

As Drubbing put it, flea pit motel. I'd like to add wet carpet to the mix. I can't imagine that they actually add a scent. There's nothing other than the smell of really cheap soap you get from industrial dispensers in dirty railway station toilets in the back waters of rural Spain, France or Italy.

Back to a familiar combo for me, but with a new blade:

Red tip SS
Arko
Tweezerman brush
Speick balm

Using a made in Russia 'Iridium Super' blade. I'm a bit of a fan of this one effortless shave with no irritation.

It was funny going back to the red tip after using my Aristocrat for a while. The first couple of strokes were a good reminder of how aggressive the red tip is (in a good way). I went through a period of several weeks were the red tip was all I used and I think I got used to it.

Short version trying different razors is fun :-)

I hesitate to ask why a man as genteel as yourself is familiar with that type of environment PJ!

P.160 Tipo Duro
Smog 830
Slim (6,6,4)
PSS (2)
Alum Block
Nivea ASB

Very easy and effective shaving. Growing quite fond of the alum block.

Repeat at regular intervals "An SE blade will not last as long as a Slick Schick or Spoiler" as I discovered when I set to for the 6th shave on the SE. Scrape and scrabble - no fun - shaved alright and tidied up with the Slim and Spoiler (still the same Spoiler - must change it have lots -they were cheap).

Red tip SS
Arko
Tweezerman brush
Speick balm

Now trying a Perma-Sharp Super. Not bad, but some tugging/pulling on the first shave. Seemed better for the second shave though

It was a long time ago. I was hanging out with the wrong crowd. Obviously!

Gotta love the block.

BOT

Tried a Personna super stainless that was in the vintage blade PIF and thought I was going to take an inch of skin off. Obviously something not right. Swapped it for a BIC immediately. Not bad the BIC. A solid MUM blade for sure. Had a second shave with it today. Nothing wrong with a BIC.

Red Tip may be too mild a razor. Yes they are aggreesive for a SS but still pretty tame in the grand scheme of things IMHO.

PSS didn't work well for me in #58 or Krona for example. Great in Merkur HD and Slim with a bit of gap set.

Interesting on the Personna PJ!

Not much love for the Personna from a couple of you fellas. I'm loving it, I had an absolute ripper shave with it in the Fatboy on 7 tonight. It's hot in Melbourne (yeah yeah, I know we're soft down here compared to you northern folks), so it was nice to scrape my face. I'm really enjoying the TOBS Jermyn St at the moment. Look what the Blobby Foo did with it!

My lather making is a skill I'm still improving, but today was pretty good I reckon. The Jermyn has such a great scent and provides great protection. To apply the lingo, I guess I could say it's got great cushion? Not super slick and not nearly as good as moisturising as the Mike's Natural soaps, but it's a solid all-rounder. I have the cream and I did initially regret not getting the soap, but I don't care now. I like whipping up a batch in my bowl, it was a nice change of pace. I'd been face lathering with the Omega 49 and MNS for a little bit, so I've gone full circle a little.

Drubbing, I hope this post causes you some small amount of joy. After tonight, I'm feeling like I've finally gotten the Blobby to work at its absolute maximum potential for me, and it's pretty farkin' good. Big thanks for sending it my way mate.

Fixed that one. Grohl will be happy too! Pity he never made it in there!

I should give you credit for the Blobby too Pj, you did good with this one buddy.

I'm sure the Grohlster would be proud, but you'd have to tell him what it is. He might want one for himself for his yearly shave.

You don't know what you are talking about. Darwin is statistically the coolest capital city in the country.

Go on, name one Australian capital city that has a cooler maximum temperature ever recorded.

You've prompted a serious nerd-out, Eggy. I'm going to prove why I'm a softcock.

It's not that Darwin is cool. It's that it isn't extremely hot. Melbourne's hottest day was 7th of Feb, 2009. I played cricket that day, and it was terrible. It was 46.4 degrees. Darwin's hottest temperature was 38.9 degrees on the 18th of October, 1982. What you say is true, the Bureau of Meteorology says that it has never been over 40 degrees in Darwin while they've been recording temps. You've employed some stats trickery, my friend. Darwin DOES have a low maximum temperature compared to other capital cities (I only looked up Melbourne/Sydney/Adelaide/Perth), BUT...it's certainly not the coolest capital in the country, and is certainly hotter than Melbourne. Time for school, kids.

I looked at averages for 60-150 years. I'm feeling progressively more ridiculous as I write this post.

The average monthly temperature in Darwin is 32.0 degrees. Look at that graph, 30 is everywhere!

Melbourne averages a pretty cruisy 19.8 degrees.

Your statistics teacher would be mortified at you using a maximum to say that Darwin is the coolest! Southern cities have extreme days amongst average weather, but Darwin weather on average is hot all the time.

My life is a sad existence. I just spent 20 minutes looking this shit up. I'm so bored. I need a hobby life.

Have I successfully justified being a softcock and whinging at 30 degree days? It's tough on us, precious little darlings that we are, and you lot endure this shit all year. So...do I know what I'm talking about?

This is what happens when a psych grad student goes crazy! The internet is not the place for me.
