Do you like waxdots on razorblades or not - tell us why

I haven't had an issue with the R41 but find the tabs on the Game Changer .84P too tight and often struggle to remove the blade.

On the other hand the Smart Helix Apollo deploys a similar base plate which has nailed loading/removing blades be they with or without wax dots... It also has the slightest amount of blade over hang to let you know the blade is there and no fear of slicing an ear whilst shaving. (y)

First world problems but annoying when the hands start to tremor and you're trying your best not to slice yourself! :banghead:

I respect your comments.

My issue is 100% related to the excessive wax dots. The wax dots stick to the top cap and require manual prying with an external impliment to remove. It's not simply just tolerances of the top cap machining as all other blades I have tried do not exhibit the same effect nor do the older batches of the same branded blade and type.

The wax dots causing the paper wrapping to rip is also due to the excessive tacky wax dots. You can physically see the oily residue has seeped through the paper wrapping. Again same brand and blade. I will post pics of.

1. Current production blade inside wrapper
2. Previous production blade inside wrapper
3. Blade clinging to the wrapper causing ripping of the wrapper for removal.
4. Blade stuck to the top cap due to the excessive wax drops.

In my instance the excessive wax is not affecting my quality of shave during the shave. Pre and Post shave, it damn right annoys me. Am I being picky, You bet I am, because its my shave and I can say and do as I like !
In saying that I could see a potential in some types of razors that clamp down on the blade where the wax is that will change the dynamics of the shave.
 
Personally I have not had an issue with wax dots except that sometimes the packaging rips where the dots are and occasionally you need to remove the ripped part of the packaging. Hot water should remove most of the dot negating any other issues. I never leave my razors tightened with a blade in them either (always loosen the top cap after use) so have not had issues with stuck blades.

Agreed, a bit of hot water, and a gentle rub, and the wax is usually gone. In fairness though, my hot tap WILL burn you. Can't say I've ever torn a package getting a blade out of it.
 
Speaking purely about the latest Astra Superior Stainless, the wax is like a sticky glue It does not come off with just wipe off with warm/hot water.

I have used this brand of blade for a long time, and never had an issue previously until I started using the newest batches with the laser marking.

I also never leave my blades in the razor. I also rinse and leave the blade out to air dry until next use.

I’ll have to pick some up in my travels-
The last astra SS I used I don’t recall them being A pain particularly but that pack was bought a few years back must be older stock,

This appears to be the shaving version of what colour is the dress.

I haven't had an issue with them and quiet like the Astra SS, even though the Astra greens are my usual. These days i'm rocking a beard and seem to shave more than I used to, so what would I know.

Opening out of the wrapper The printed Astra no issues, vs the laser marked where the wax stuck to the wrapper paper and had to rip the wrapper to remove from the blade.

Blade is stuck to the top cap after shaving. Hot water will not dislodge it. You can see the there is no blade tabs to grab hold of. I had to use an external device (padlepop stick) to pry the blade apart.

These pictures above can affect the same issues with the Fatboy, Slim and Super Adjustable, not just the TTO doors, the blade can affect the 4 long slot that moves up and down when changing the aggression dial inside the adjustable when the blade sticked to the long slot can affect the shave.

@rhodes96 next time when another blade before you remove the wax paper any further, soak the blade in a coffee cup with very warm water for about 5 or 6 minutes, while the blade is very warm you should be able to peel the wax paper from the blade a lot easier.

Agree 100% @SpeedyPC this would work.

Then that's another BS process that I should not have to do. Thus removing my enjoyment of the shave.

I Just did a quick check with a fatboy, slim, black beauty, and a Rockwell Model T.

The fatboy, slim, and the black beauty all have exposed blade tabs when a blade is seated. I cannot see an issue here as the blade tabs can be used to pivet the blade loose if stuck. The Rockwell Model T has no exposed blade tabs and the blade is seated on the inside of the razor head when the doors are shut. When opened I can see a potential for the blade to get stuck if its like any of the blades I have recently used.
