Muhle R95 Rocca Birch Bark Appreciation Thread

Just got my n96.. and the noble otter soap vanille

the n96 feels different in the hand.. handle looks bigger and felt like it weighed more

measured both and handle is exactly the same length (Optical illusion) but it’s 10g heavier

the soap smells great to my nose, can def smell black tea don’t get a strong vanilla though

1. I just discovered a RAD pacifier in the Smart Helix Apollo Light and only on mild plate and 1st blade so plenty of mileage to go
2. Most comparisons mention R41 and JAWS both I found too aggressive for daily shaving
Is there any aggro in the Rocca V4 or all smooth efficiency?

Well I used mine first up after 8 or 10 shaves straight with the windrose and it felt incredibly mild:LOL:
 
Much as I like the look of the birchbark, I would be worried about how well it would stand up to contact with water. With my other razors, I have long been in the habit of soaking them in hot water along with my brush and bowl. I guess that would have to stop. Maybe I should just consider one of the other handles...
 
You need @StratMan to tell you that.
The head is the same as R94, and R95...so it will shave the same...probably depends on what handle you like the look of.
I would have bought the stainless handle, but @Mark1966 said I had to get the Birch bark.
Don't ask him as we all know what his reply will be.
Regret that B&B don't sell to NZ as I would have preferred to buy from them.
Mine is an evil-bay buy coming from Connaught (UK). Cheaper than buying a V3 in NZ.

I asked that same question on another forum. As one member replied..."I have one incoming so cannot speak to longevity BUT I can infer that wear will likely not be an issue in longevity. I have fishing rods whose handles are made of stacked cork rings (R95:is stacked birchbark rings) that have been subjected to many thousands of hours, hot blazing sun, extreme low temps, and HEAVY use on heavy fish and nary had to repair a handle. These handles get a diluted Simple Green wash once a year and no other treatment. They have patina but no noticeable wear".
So, I think the Birch bark will be fine for quite a few years.
Don't know why you would soak a razor though (or...am I doing something wrong?).
Only takes a quick dip into the tub of hot water to heat the razor metal up.

the difference would be the feel and the weight. The r96 is 10g heavier that the r94 and assume the same against the r95. 10g don’t sound like much but is considerable enough to notice the difference without a scale

and yes @Blackie is correct zero difference in the heads of all three

Again, fair point. Only because I am lazy, and chuck everything in the sink all at once. And I did say that would have to stop. :D Anyway, I've got lots of stuff to use and use up over the next year, so maybe I'll take the plunge in 2022.

Having recently used the R41 you really notice the weight differenceand build quality as the satin finish SS feels really nice.

Judging by some pictures I saw on the Muhle website I assumed the Birch Bark was just a sheet coating over the SS handle so the weight difference between the various handles shouldn't be too significant...? :unsure:
