What Did You Learn From Your Straight Razor Shave Today?

With SR shaving we tend to learn a little more with each shave. Here you can help others with what you have learnt.

Fingers have bones in them to stop an SR slicing through.

I learnt this this afternoon while doing a little maintenance on one of my SR's. Not too deep as it was on the top of my finger. Nothing a bandaid couldn't take care of.

Never rush honing as slipping off the side of and then hitting the side of the hone with the end of the straight results in a similar out come to your thumb

Very day that you delay learning the gentlemanly art of straight razor shaving is a day that you will forever regret. I only wished that I learnt in my teens.

Doing a fool's pass (against the grain on the upper lip) is the best way to test if your edge is truly shave ready.

Well, I did learn to use a straight, and for several years used a Western kamisori that I made for myself (too lazy to bother with scales) out of a chunk of damascus I had lying around. I stopped when I started shaving my head.

I have learnt that AC Kamisori's are great for cleaning up stray neck hair.

Goes for all razors...DE's, SE's,...

Biggest mistake people make with "mild" razors is using too much pressure and then complaining about a mediocre shave

Well, I learned that HHT is somewhat overrated. Finished honing a Puma 22, wouldn't pass any level of HHT for her life. I did know, however, I had done a good job on the stones with her and boy, was I right. Very, very nice shave.

I'm finding that the more I shave with my Revisor 6-0035, the more I like it. If this keeps up it could be my favourite SR. Will keep shaving with this for the rest of the week.

Still haven't tried my 1870 George Butler "Shakespeare" yet. That is booked in for next Sunday.
