Shave of the Day - 2026

Well, you could always take a leaf out of the old-school barber's book. Soak a flannel in water as hot as you can stand, and hold it to your skin for a slow count of 30 (until it cools too much to be useful). Then apply ordinary soap (I like Pears, since I no longer have any Valobra Glicerlanolina) and leave it on while you load your brush heavily, build up your lather in your bowl, rinse off with the flannel and lather up on your skin.

I use the shower to rinse everything off once I'm done, otherwise any remaining skerrick of soap residue will inevitably play merry hell with my skin later in the morning. Coupled with the rest of my post-shave treatment, this means I never have to worry about the post-shave effects of the shaving soap.
Damn good advice, as always, from @Gargravarr. I use the hot towel method when I am in Camp, and don't have the time nor conveniences of a home bathroom shave.

Eiko Glory 13/16 Quarter Hollow - Zenith Unbleached Boar - Eufros Rosa-Oud - Floïd Vigoroso - Sukin Moisturiser

Rosa-Oud proved an ever deeper, richer scent when lathered. Opens with a heavy, dark rose (think heritage variety) and then revelas an almost plummy (as in port) note. Delicious. Lather was, of course, impeccable: Manuel is a true artist! :)

; I’ve been really looking forward to this beauty arriving and trying her out. Well I’ve not been disappointed, 1 already know one shave in it is smoother than my S/S La Faulx and feels more efficient? I also find this difference between my Alpha Spirit Bronze & S/S razors. The weight at 72gm for the Bronze/Padauk vs 107gm Stainless Steel may also play a factor?
All in all a very pleasant shave with the new razor and the handle, wow I’ve never felt more attached to “any” razor like I did with this?
Finished off with more SV in my favourite scent profile. Looking forward to many more.

Received notification that my Criniere ardent has been sent. Mine is totally different to yours as it is based on the Le Maurice. I don’t know why I went that way because I consider the No 7 to be one of the greatest razors ever made.

Hmmm, Rosa-Oud. The base scents of my discontinued Noble Otter Two Kings. Who's got my instabuy button?
