2026 Shaving Acquisitions Thread

In before I realise I should delete the Aliexpress app to stop me from buying any more randoms. Picked these Gold Dollars up for 40% off with coins. I've wanted a tortoise shell scaled razor for a while, but wasn't super keen on spending the $250 for the Dovo 1516. This will do.

Far better quality scales than their base models. Geometry is good, and they actually have an edge. I'm popping leg hairs, and might give them a strop and try before I joint them and put on my own edge. If you follow GD's marketing, apparently these are factory honed to 8000 grit by their razor 'sensei' and are 'shave ready.'

Came in its own tin case and velvet bag. Would it kill them to spend a little more and just sell them in proper coffin boxes? Also came with a comb and nail clippers as bonus gifts.

Well, I saw a SOTD post from @lu20vt of a SV parquet brush handle and it got me thinking 🤔 So I contacted @TroyTools asking about one made in Hardwood with the "top ring" and in my favourite shape. Following numerous sms and e-mails, it was commenced. Troy sent photos of various stages of the glueing and clamping, followed by a completed cube to the final round timber on the Mandrel, prior to shaping. I can't describe how bloody rapt I am in what I opened today ❤️
This is my 6th brush from Troy 1 to Cancer Charity Auction, ! for my son and 3 for my Grandsons, when I kick the 🪣

TroyCraft, Troymogue™ (Troy Made). TroyCraft Owner’s Club (TOC). Ebony, Huon Pine, Macadamia, Myrtle, Purple-heart and Wenge timbers for a Parquet styled handle, with a highly polished CA finish and a 25mm Oumo Ex Density ST-1 Synthetic knot. (Brush No 6)

That looks absolutely magnificent!

I've always been skeptical of wooden handles, wood and water generally means lots of work to maintain. This one though, yeah I might be tempted @TroyTools !!! Sensational work

That's the premise for why I do these the way I do them nowadays. Fully sealed all the wood with CA glue. The knot socket has a resin liner to provide strength against a swelling/expanding wet knot from splitting the thin wall wood knot socket. The resin liner also seals the wood from water ingress inside the knot socket. Hopefully this technique prevents the upkeep (trauma) natural wood finish requires, plus prevents knot socket splitting.

Ican confirm that Troy's work as he notes above is first class - I have four brushes to prove it.

Very nice, I think I want one. 🤤 I have a Pullman espresso tamper of a similarish design (actually, I have two, for different machines), but your brush handle has a much finer finish.

TOC? May I join? I have a few... 😶
