Two pass shave with a clean up. First use of a Bolzano blade and it was sharp and smooth, similar feel as the Gillette Silver Blue for me. The Duke 3 sucked up the soap off the puck and I used painting strokes to lather it on the face. Before long I had a lather that was nice and shiny and very slick. Slowly added water till I had it where I wanted it. Lovely shave with no irritation and smooth result.

Nice shave with this little razor I found in the wild yesterday. After a fair bit of cleaning it's gleaming. Nice heavy head gives it a bit more aggression than a rocket hd.

Nice shave with this little razor I found in the wild yesterday. After a fair bit of cleaning it's gleaming. Nice heavy head gives it a bit more aggression than a rocket hd.

The flat bottom head makes a lot of difference doesn't it?

Too busy to change blade and do test this morning. Had a 'shavus interruptus' as Mrs Mark1966 needed something done mid shave. Was surprised at how resilient the LPL lather proved.

Will, reluctantly, replace blade tomorrow.

Turning Back the Clock...

I was trying over the weekend to remember what it's like to shave with a modern cartridge razor. I had this Feather put away in a drawer, and decided to give it a try. Given Feather's very high quality shave offerings of other kinds (Faux Shavette, AS-D2, Blades etc) I assumed that their offering in the cartridge department would be similarly superior. The cartridges feature a nifty little perforated roller rather than the lubricating strips offered by the opposition. The handle also offers pivoting and tilting, or it can be locked in a fixed position.

After creating a nice moist, cushioning lather it was time to get to work. The first stroke or 2 with the razor were a portent of things to come : while I could feel the little roller on my face, there was no blade feel at all, and as for audible feedback, forget it. There was still quite a bit of lather left on my face where I had just shaved, so I had to feel my face to see what was going on. Not much, I'm sorry to report - it was a lousy first pass as far as beard reduction was concerned. I continued with Pass 1, stopping very frequently to unclog the razor. I had forgotten that less endearing attribute of cartridge razors - their poor ability at clearing whiskers and lather from between the blades. By the time I finished Pass 1, I was getting fairly fed up and had used about the same amount of time as a straight shave. Added to this was the fact that every part of my face was still rough and whiskery. At this point I decided to abandon the experiment, and switched to an alternative tool to finish the job. Childs play from that point onward.

A good splash of menthol enhanced Fine Platinum went some way to salvaging the experience.

I must admit to being very surprised at the outcome of this experiment - I was expecting the cartridge to be reasonable, but not as enjoyable as my shaves with modern DEs, Kamisoris and straights. The reality was that it was a poor shave at best, and was eclipsed in every meaningful way by my current shaving preferences. I wonder if the result would have been much different if I'd used a Mach 3 instead of the Feather MR3 Neo. Well, I've scratched that itch and answered my own questions about negative memories of cartridge shaving.

Back to the drawing board I guess...

Coming to the end of my run with the Dorco Pace 7. The familiar cartridge pulling of the hair follicles experienced with 2-3 day growth beard was present.
My first lather with a Beaver Woodwright soap. Thank you to @SydBJW who offered me a sample to try. Lovely silky feeling lather. Very easy to apply and get a top notch lather. Definitely on my 2017 wish list.
Agua de Colonia Alvarez Gomez is a blend of spice and citrus. Smashing scent and feels so nice on the skin. From Gifts & Care.

WOW God Crikey I'm loving the Polsilver DE blade as well as my Gillette Silver Blue side by side, I might as well start ordering another 100 Polsilver god I love both blade very happy chappy tonight. My next DE blade to tryout soon are the Gillette Nacet I wonder what this blade is like?? any feedback.

Did you like the scent of the soap? Ghost Ship is his soap that comes out around Halloween but I have notice he makes batches of it at other times during the year

This is going to sound like a silly question but what is it supposed to smell like? I'm getting some sweet smell like candy or bubble gum. I expected something dark hence the name Ghost Ship. The sample was nicely packed but right up next to the Cherry Bomb sample.

I have had some family stuff going on and haven't been around much lately but had to share this shave from a few days ago.

It was an awesome three pass shave.

The brush is large and soft but also has good enough backbone to face lather with for me.

The toggle you can see why people seek them out, it is a nice balanced razor to shave with.

The soap and aftershave has for me a great scent and lasts for a long time. Great work Douglas.

I took a trip back to my high school days with my Schick adjustable set on three. Now I didn't go all the way back because that would have required cold water and Imperial leather hand soap. My home brew soap is many magnitudes better for shaving than the Colgate or Imperial leather so that was one of my concessions to the way back machine. Oh that and a bit more experience.
Nice shave and tomorrow night a slender Japanese straight should be in order.

Upon opening of the sachet, not a fan. Upon application, definitely not a fan - total 'Home Alone' moment.

Upon drydown - hell yes I am a fan. A slightly powdery, yet astringent scent that develops in a very masculine leather with a slight powdery linger. The other half loves it.
