Post Shave: Thayers Lemon Witch Hazel, Proraso Green and Malizia Uomo Vetyver
Three pass shave. Pulled out the Summer Breeze as the summer in Melbourne does not want to quit. Lovely soap, nice scent ant excellent lather. The efficiency of the Standard meant I was really done after two passes but I had the lather and thought what the hell do another pass anyway. Lovely smooth face the result.

It is a great soap - personally I would rate it a little above the B&M - but I agree - paying over the odds for these vintage soaps is not RATIONAL when there are great artisan soaps available much cheaper BUT - the B&M soaps don't come in that cool wooden bowl though ...

That's a very expensive wooden bowl though - maybe get your local wood turner to make you a dozen for that price

Don't tell yourself that @bald as - sounds like you are on a roll at the moment with the straight. Exploit that for all its worth : get all the good moves really ingrained in muscle memory, and look for some of the myriad little ways you can improve your technique. It's great you've reached this point, so it's the perfect time to focus on consolidating the results from all the practice.

Cruisy Thursday...

After yesterday's excitement trying out the Fine Superlight Slant for the first time, I thought it would be great to use it again. Wait!! That's right, I don't have it @Lifes a Peach is putting it through its paces today. So business as usual seemed like the best option available

Did the normal face prep, but decided to use the Proraso White Pre/Post Shave for a change. Used sparingly, it's quite a nice product : it has a clean, pleasant fragrance, a decent little menthol hit, and it makes the skin elastic and well lubricated, all without negative effects on lathers. I had another try at the I Coloniali, armed with the expert advice of @Lifes a Peach this time First I bloomed the puck while the brush soaked, then loaded the brush from the puck, adding a very little bloom water when it started to dry, until a proto-lather started forming on the top of the puck. At this point, transferred the lather to my face and worked it, adding a tiny bit of water from time to time until I had the kind of lather that people rave about. Easy peasy when you know how - thanks @Lifes a Peach, you helped me nail it

I used the beautiful Filarmonica #13 today. A wonderful, responsive, comfortable and efficient razor. Prices for them are absolutely insane now - I'm glad I picked this one up before things got so expensive. Anyway, it provided me with a very enjoyable and close shave. No complaints!!

Finished with an inexpensive AS I found at Chemists Warehouse - the Calvin Klein Euphoria. I found out about it from basenotes.net, a great site for learning about fragrances. There were quite a few positive comments about the Calvin Klein, so at just under $25 for a 50ml bottle, it's good value if you like the fragrance. I do like it, a subtle floral based fragrance with dashes of spice and wood.

An excellent shave today, great scent and performance from the Wickhams, really didn't need an A/S but I really enjoy the scent and face feel of the PAA. The blade was a first for me, very impressed with it, smooth and sharp. Hopefully it'll have a decent life span.

This mornings shave.
I got to put the new software through their paces. First of the soap, WOW!!, this stuff is awesome and for the price of $14.95 even better. It is a soft soap, so its quite easy to scoop some onto the brush and bowl lather from there, it produced an amazing lather as well (no pics, sorry). The smell is pleasant and not to overpowering, and the post shave feel was top notch; plus this soap gives amazing slickness and glide for the straight razor .
Then to finish up after three amazing passes was the alum block (not pictured, whoops), the Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel and Aloe Toner and then the Saponifico Varesino
Tundra Artica AB. The Thayers was a real treat to the face as well as the Tundra Artica AB, only bad thing about it the scent dissipated after and hour or so.
And after a day at work in a hot kitchen the face still feels great.

Draco knew that I was very keen to get his impression on the Fine. Not only did he share his thoughts in perfect detail but he came into the city to drop off the razor (and that Shavemac) so that I could get to take it for a spin. Such a top guy and gentleman to boot

@Draco Noir 's impression of this razor was spot on. It's quite the efficient beast. Right up there with the best of the best slants that I have tried. Our experience differs in one area though and that is aggression. Where as Draco found silky smoothness, I felt a lot of the blade. Agua Balsamica to the rescue. I've had this happened to me with a number of razors - tweak my technique or change of blade and it's a smooth operator. Might try a Personna or Pol tomorrow.

I'm cycling through the olive oil shave soaps. Number 3 is my first with jojoba. Jojoba is so important that it will be on the ingredients list of all of my future shave soaps. It's 50/50 Na/Ka hydroxides. What this means is that it is now Cella hard and thus looks very crisp. The blend of vetiver/cedar is a favourite too.

I'm a faily boring bloke in what I like; simple white or black. Looks classy, uncluttered and doesn't distract the eye from the overall package. I do however "kind of" like handle on the brush though.

The scent of the Mdc is just irresistible. So I gave it another go today. Lathered fantastically.

I think I have to admit that the feather might be too sharp for me, loaded in the OSS. I'll try the voskhods tomorrow or day after. Feather works best in my merkur 34c for me. Fantastically smooth and clean. But with the OSS, definitely not as smooth. Left with a tender feeling face at the end.

Sadly I think it is time to exchange the chubby. It shed like how my first girl friend dumped me. Below is the picture that sends a thousand blades to my heart. Collected from just tonight's shave.

How is the Shavemac D01 3 band? I have a hankering for one of those. Does it have enough backbone for face lathering? What are its dimensions? Any info greatly appreciated.

The semogue are brilliant brushes. The SOC provided much back bone and I think I am developing a thing for stiff brushes. I have a 2 band otw, as inspired by @filobiblic [emoji2]

I decided to start the 'May Madness - One soap for One month' a few days in advance.

Note: If you are thinking "Hey, this guy is using a sugar bowl to soak his brush? Woooooot" you are absolutely right. I've been using this sugar bowl to soak my brushes for the past 4 years.

Soap: Catie's Bubbles Mile High Menthol
After: Myrsol formula "C"

Got brave, and thought the Gillette might cope a little better with my 2 days growth. The Catie's Bubbles lathered up a storm. Not sure about the menthol, I'm definitely not in the league of Da Menth Heads! Anyway, whether it was the fact I had a better lather to work with or my technique just clicked this morning. I got a brilliant shave, DFS after 2 passes. Very neat to BBS after 3 with a small cleanup under the neck. Great way to start the morning!
