Scuttle-butt

So upon opening christmas pressie this morning i find that my lovely otherhalf had gotten me this weird bowl for my shaving called a scuttle.
now i haven't noticed anyone on here talking about them at all but i figured " looks cool let's try it out. woman put some effort into buying me this" so after a little net surfing reading up on them and how to use them i proceeded to fill the bottom of it with boiling water and let sit.
stropped up the razor on my brand new super soft and supple 3" strop(pressie from the mother).
hot soaked face in one of my pack of new bamboo towels(if you have never felt bamboo cloth i siggest trying it. softer then linen or cotton).
then with a plug of soap pressed into the bottom of the matching soap bowl i loaded up my brush then gave it a few swirls around in the bowl of the scuttle after adding a touch of water to the brush.
First thought " hole crap that has lathered in seconds" literally it took maybe 3 swirls in the bowl for it to lather up on the brush like a dream.
started rubbing it onto my face and next thought" oh man that hot lather feels amazing" see filling the bottom of it with boiling water heats the lather as it helps it form up so you get warm lather to rub onto your face.
All in all i have to say this has been a fantastic shaving christmas.
when i shave tommorow i'll get some pictures of the scuttle in action for folks.
place she got it from was HG pottery. apparently the woman was amazingly helpful and she even makes stacking pottery soap dishes that you can get to match the scuttles she makes.

well i've kept her around for 4 years so far and she hasn't caused any issues so i guess i'll let her hang around for a while longer ;)

What an awesome present @PapaDooks ! Helena makes some fantastic (Moss-style) scuttles and has been making them for a while too.

I think that most of Australia has lovely warmer weather for most of the year so it's not inclined towards scuttle weather. Some too find that the extra time adds too much effort to the shave. BUT there are some who absolutely love their scuttles and use them regularly. You sound like you'll join their number gladly. [emoji6]

What a thoughtful present from your other-half!!! Top marks there. [emoji106]

with it being summer and all yeah isn't exactly scuttle weather here at the moment but the fact we get snows a few times a year i think makes winter a lovely time to be enjoying warm lather for the face
