PXL-20250827-214615651-PORTRAIT.jpg

Pre-shave: Hot flannel, Pears soap
Brush: TroyCraft "Nebulish" 30mm silvertip (with matching razor stand :love:)
Soap: MdC Rose
Razor: Blackland Sabre V1 L2
Blade: Personna GEM Stainless
Post-shave: TND witch hazel, homebrew moisturiser, Oxford & Cambridge cologne

I've been neglecting my Sabre shamefully, but fortunately it doesn't sulk, it just delivers a perfect, trouble-free GBS every time. Some have remarked that it leaves a lot of blade on display (and this is true), but the geometry is such that it makes for a very forgiving daily driver. A bit heavier than is currently trendy, but I suspect this may have something to do with how well it performs.

Great pic and info @Gargravarr .
Lighter razors might be trendy with some (i’m referring to aluminium razors) in my opinion some of the heavier razors take the experience of shaving to another level that they wouldn’t have if they were lightweight.
Also, I myself like the extra heft of the modern stainless steel razors or even the few brass razors that I’ve tried.
For example, I feel the alpha Guido would be an inferior razor is made out of aluminium.
Of course, as always this is just my opinion.😏
Cheers.

Hi all,
Another great shave tonight from the Gillette Super Speed there are more efficient and smoother razors out there.
But as far as vintage razors go there aren’t many as well known as this family of razors.
Just about anybody who has vintage Gillette’s has one of these razors whether it’s the old type or the flair tips there were so many made that they’re still available today reasonable price.
A real piece of history you can own and still get a decent shave with.
I won’t say anything else about today’s set up.
The show belongs to this legendary Gillette super speed.
Cheers.

Pre-shave; Warm shower, face rinse with MWF bar soap.
Brush; TroyCraft, ‘’Gold n Jar’’ Jarrah hardwood and pure Gold flake resin handle, highly polished with a CA finish and a 26mm (x TF), 2 band Finest Badger knot. (Brush No 4) Grail.
Soap; Woolly Wash Soapery, Lana’s ‘’Old Spice dupe sample’’ in a NOS “Grand Turk” Shulton shave mug, late 02 design 1964-78.
Razor; Alysworth, Apex SS-Pro with a + plate, satin with an electropolish finish.
Blade; Bic, Chrome Platinum. Sharpest/Smoothest I have tried to date, YMMV
Post-shave; Shulton, Old Spice Original, milk-glass bottle, 6.37oz (Bottle style 1996)
Cologne;
Moisturiser;
Attar (Perfume Oil);
Shave;
After reading @Errol and other reviews, I had to give this one a go. I have spent 7 days shaving with it and I would like to think I’ve found a one and only ‘’daily” but with RAD and Vintage Gillette’s, this is obviously not possible, or is it?
IMHO, I believe the smoothness and closeness of this razor is on par with my Lambda Athena (though I prefer this handle/balance better) a Timeless Slim will go to my son and both Blackbirds are going to, that’s how much I like the Apex.
Even though my ‘’love’’ is for Vintage Gillette’s, I’m very impressed with the Apex.
The soap is a ‘’sample’’ from Lana based on her interpretation of Old Spice (OS) shave soap from a small slither of a ‘60’s soap I sent her.
Again:
If Lana puts this into production I would have no hesitation purchasing, instead of using my dwindling genuine OS stock, not quite the original scent (there never will be again?) but close, pleasant smelling, lathers easily and Aussie made.

Great pic and review mate and what a lovely brush from TroyCraft
ApexSS it’s definitely one of my favourite modern DE razors.
I share the same view as you as much as I love the vintage Gillette’s they do struggle to match modern DE’s of this calibre.
My opinion only of course.😏
Cheers.
