Well folks it is that time of the year, 31 December is nearly here and we start to reflect on the year gone by as a way of preparing for the year ahead.

Looking at P&C the SOTD thread has 371 pages and 7410 posts with over 160k views. We have nearly 500 members according to the stats on the front page.

One of the world's great artisan soap makers closed up shop, we appreciate what we had in @Anthony's work. The flip side has been the long awaited opening of The Stray Whisker by @shavetheman so we finally have access to a much wider range of artisan products here in Australia.

To prove we are not uncultured philistines around here @Arnold J Rimmer is emerging as a master coffee roaster and @todras as 'The Nose who Knows" - a perfumer par excellence. The raft of soap makers are also a hidden talent.

Closer to razors @FatBoy58 has done some wonderful restorations for people and the B/S/T has seen some great bargains come and go. Even the Travelling Box had its ups and down but eventually made it around - and PCTB4 is already in the planning!

These are some of my thoughts and initial reflections on the year gone by - fill in the gaps for me and add your own below.

My final reflection though is how much I've appreciated the friendship, banter, purchases! :), generosity and advice I've received here this year again.

Wishing you all the very best for a great 2017!

Some of my memorable moments for the year...

Had knee surgery on my torn meniscus due to a basketball injury :(

Got married in Feb :)

Moved to settle with my wife in India (after growing up in Sydney haha).

Memorable shaving related moments:

Rockwell 6S replaced the Progress after 4 years. From the adjustability to the cutting angle...Hands down the best razor ever made!!

After running a rotation of about 10 soaps for 5 years, I expanded my rotation to 70, including 20 shaver heaven :D

Discovered Washpool Farm shaving soap. Aussie artisan in QLD...one of the best shaving soaps I've ever used!!

Expanded my polsilver super iridium stash to 7,000.

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year.

Sounds like a memorable year in many ways @nav1 - but the highs outnumber the lows it seems :)

Made some aftershave and a few balms, finally got around to picking up a timeless razor. Met a very decent, knowledgeable bunch of people and was called a 'pork-chop' which I still find hysterically funny oh and tried my first SE courtesy of some Accountant(!) in the ACT.

Not a bad year really :)

What do you consider to be timeless?

2x Sydney and surrounding area's P&C TSW meetup's.
Meeting @Anthony @shavetheman @Mark1966 @Mark and Con along the way at those meet's with plenty of other characters.
@Barrister & Mann A/S being stocked in Australia.
Watching a whole host of members here work together to ensure we all managed to snare limited edition and sought after items like @Barrister & Mann from TSW.
Being a part of working towards and the realisation of Shaver Heaven's initial and subsequent tallow release.
The Stray Whisker finally getting his act together and opening up, albeit upon the other side of THE GREAT DIVIDING RANGE FFS!
Formation and fortification of online and offline friendships.
Watching the evolution of a community that actually leaves members feel they're accepted and belong in their own right as a part of it.
Loaning out a Toggle within that community in a pass-around and it actually returning.
One of us, @Keen edge representing this fine country.
@Drubbing using an emoticon... wait :(
Guess I've something to look forward to in 2017 :)

Losing a few members due to various issues of difference.
@Anthony having to close his doors.
@Keen edge having a shocker (we still consider you one of us though mate and look forward to meeting you at a meetup sooner rather than later).
Ausfarce, AUSFARCE, AUSFARCE, AUSFARCE! :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Great post - although at this late hour I read formation and fortification as fornication and was a little concerned there ...

it has been a memorable year for purchases, to many purchases, way to many. Will probably do it all again in 2017. Anthony moving on was a bit of a downer, however, his star shone bright and he will be missed, not only as a great artisan, but by all accounts a very humble and likeable person.

The year of Euro goodness for me!

French razors - Leresche #77 and Kirby Beard

Spanish soaps and aftershaves - EUFROS by Jabonman, Myrsols

German brushes - a couple of Shavemacs...

Looking forward to there being more Aussie artisans in 2017!
@todras and his extraordinary aftershaves
@Tony Forsyth and his amazing brushes
The return of @Anthony and a new addition from @darcy and possibly some more soaps from others!

Happy new year youse all!!!
