2025 Shaving Acquisitions Thread

So, I didn't know about the new TaoBao app, which makes ordering off TaoBao, maybe not as easy as AliX, but much easier than navigating their webpage. Anyway, I saw it as an opportunity to get my hands on a ZY430 straight razor, because I missed the boat on these when they were readily available, and the minimum order quantity off Alibaba is like 100. Anyway, what I thought I was ordering was a single razor, but it turned out to be a set, including a leather/linen strop, 2x polishing compounds, and a CHUG (Chinese hone of unknown grit). I was wondering why it came in such a heavy gigantic box. Razor is unmarked. I'm hoping its an unmarked ZY, but I don't have an original one to compare. Feels like your typical Gold Dollar quality razor.

The CHUG is interesting. Fingernail test show its very hard. Harder even than the Adaee 12K.

Also picked up a Xuanfeng razor for $11 (about half the price of the AliX listing). Kind of interesting. Actual wooden scales, the spine isn't as chunky as a Gold Dollar, but not as refined as a Titan.

These arrived yesterday. I ordered a puck of the Tranquility and Iana generously included the three samples. Thanks @WoollyWunder :)

The Tranquility smells amazing: the basil and sage give it a clean, herbal vibe with an almost sharp, green freshness. Not like any other soaps I have tried. Just delightful. Lather test tonight.



I think next up will be Outback, as I don't have a sandalwood type soap at the moment. I'll transfer to an empty tin to slip into the rotation.

Awesome you got it! You're welcome re the samples. I dont normally include that many but the postage wasn't cheap to NZ and there was extra wiggle room in the parcel 🙂

Remember, don't overload the brush, because, Woolly Wash eats a lot of water.
