AlphaGress?

Blackie

The guy from over the ditch
Just received the email today about this razor.
https://www.alphashaving.com/outlaw-de/alphagress-artdecoreborn
Comes from China? One of the reviews mentions it 'arrived from China'.
Is it a China made clone? Is the head still zinc alloy?
If it was all stainless steel I could be tempted.
Or...I may have to find a new toy lurking in the large list of @Errol reviews.
Hope all you folks are fit and well over there.

Mate,
I think this is like the Mergress or a modified Merkur progress, Steve has added the knob at the bottom and taken care of the calibration and every other aspect to make the razor perfect. Some Progress razors otherwise have had alignment issues in the past. First Bullgoose had the Mergress, then Merkur came out with their own additional attachment to do away with the iconic Plastic knob at the bottom. Now Merkur has their own versions with a Chrome bottom or a vintage looking one.

To my knowledge only The Yaqi Avanti is a Chinese made razor in Stainless steel that is inspired by the Merkur classic adjustable, everything else is a modified Progress.

@Vlasta or Steve-oh would be the best bloke to answer this but I do know that everything he touches has purpose or class to it.

To me the Parker variant OC and the Merkur Progress remain the best adjustable razors I have used and that's personal preference.

I can second all that @Bladerunner7 has said.:)

Thanks guys.
I did ask Alpha about the razor and their answer arrived this morning...

"The AlphaGress retains all the great qualities of the original razor but introduces two major improvements. First, the plastic knob is replaced with a precision-machined, nickel-plated brass knob that complements the razor’s aesthetic and adds a more premium feel. Second, the adjustment mechanism is re-calibrated — each AlphaGress is hand-fitted to ensure that the “1” setting aligns exactly with the “dot” when a blade is loaded, delivering consistent, accurate control.
The razor is made in Germany. The mod is made in Hong Kong".

Edit: now I have to go find a Parker Variant OC. I like the Indian made Pearl Flexi that I bought, and I see they now have an OC version too...but they are a heavy little sucker.
