Edit: not sure about the charity auctions though, we'd have to have one...
Though I totally understand that there must be much more work involved there than would meet the eye.

I've been thinking about it. I definitely don't need anything. I have ordered a custom, but not yet paid for it, but I think that it is the committment that counts?

I want some 3 band silvertip as this is the one type of bristle I have never tried (from natural ones as I have tried one synthetic and do not like it at all - love the handle though).Fortunately for me, the only person I would go to for a brush is @TroyTools, and I'm out of inspiration (for now) for my next custom brush. But I have almost a whole year to think about the next one...
I have a 30mm silvertip in a lovely TroyCraft handle. The knot is very soft, but despite its huge size, it's still reluctant to give back enough lather to easily feed a multi-pass head&face shave. Even my 26mm boar is less of a lather hog.
Not all synthetics are born equal. Some are amazing, others are just nasty. My favourite by far is the AP Shave Co G5C. I have two in the 28mm size, set as high in the socket as possible.
30 mm is not a joke
. You have to feed it well.From my limited experience dense badgers are way bigger hogs than boars.
My favourite boar, SOC, was a hog at the beginning but with the time started releasing lather way easier.
And of course a size matters
. 19 mm badger keeps a lot less lather than 27 mm one.Maybe I will try synthetic know one day again but I have so many great brushes I do not feel like adding any more. Especially this Sabbatical year
Indeed, that's why I mostly feed it MdC. It's more replaceable than any of my milled soaps, which are now hugely expensive or totally unobtainable on any terms.30 mm is not a joke
I'd have to do some sums, but I'm pretty sure it's not really that expensive given how many shaves you get out of it. That tub is big, and they fill it right up to the very top. And it doesn't take much of a load to get buckets of lather.Is MdC your cheapest soap?
Further, I should add that all of the backup soaps I have awaiting their moment are C&S Oxford & Cambridge (made by Valobra, and thus unobtainable by any means now) and Yardley (occasionally obtainable now at huge cost, but if you love it enough it's worth it). I have enough of these jewels to last maybe five years, and I have no expectation of outlasting my stash. If I'm wrong, then I'll be happy, there are plenty of worthy products available to see me through until I peg out. Sooner or later, one of these cancers is going to see me off, if a tree doesn't drop on me first. Or maybe a Velociraptor...

But $100+ is a bit more than I can comfortably spend. And not this year anyway
