Dental Work in HCMC (Saigon)

rbscebu

Mr. Strop
Not sure where to post this.

I needed some dental work done that was going to cost me between AU$7k to 9k in Australia so I decided to go to HCMC (Siagon) to have it done at my dental clinic there. I use one of the most expensive dental clinics in HCMC, Westcoast Dental Clinic.

Westcoast Dental Clinic may be one of the most expensive in HCMC but their quality and service cannot be faulted. The work is costing me about ⅓ of what I would pay in AU. That is about the same as I would pay in Singapore. Airfare is about AU$1k return and good 4-start accommodation/food is about AU$150 per day.

This is not the first time that I have had dental work done overseas. If you can afford the time, it's a great way to get a "free" overseas holiday.

I was in HCMC in 1993 and went to the dentist while I was there. It was in a small suburnab bungalow, not far from the city center, maybe 20 mins on a scooter, and I walked into the house to find a dental chair in the middle of the living room. No complaints, the service was excellent.

One thing I did learn was that, when dining on the river boats in the evening, the staff willl refill your glass without asking, when they notice it is low or even just getting empty. So stick with beer, because if you get on to the whiskey, it can turn into quite a night out! :p

Great to hear about your dental work and good experience
I'm looking at the all on four implant retain denture in the next few years been look at a trip to south east Asia myself
Thailand would be the easiest for us but I think the price have risen a bit there

Thailand is possibly the best for quality out there. Most of the dentists there were trained in Oz funnily enough. I know someone who went to a dentist here who was very impressed with the work until they were told where it was done. Then they were very upset.

Vietnam is definitely rising in popularity though and is a good choice. HCMC is a bit mad but I feel very comfortable there, the Viet people are very friendly.

I totally agree
In my time spent in Thailand, I had general dental done fillings, and that the service was easily on par with here. General practice is the same.
The only thing that hit me was, I didn’t have Thai medical cover🤣

Thanks for the recommendation (y) it's always good to have a word-of-mouth thumbs-up instead of yet another addition to the shitlist.

Westcoast International Dental Clinic has three locations in Vietnam; one in Hanoi and two in HCMC. I use the one in HCMC at Norfolk Mansion in District 1.

Here was my treatment plan:

Oral examination
5 x-rays
Deep cleaning (the results amazed me)
6 x composite fillings
3 x full crowns - non metallic

Total cost AU$2,900 all inclusive. Although not cheap by Vietnam standards, I thought it was rather economical. Westcoast do most of the dental work for expats in Vietnam.

I am now going to spend the next few weeks visiting South Korea and Japan. Should be back to my little cottage in Mareeba early February.
