Do you have any 'unpopular' blade opinions?

Blades are just so personal. One man's meat is another's poison.
For what it is worth, I have never got along with Astra's or Voshkods, yet many others rate them highly.
I love most of the common '60s & '70s vintage blades, but there are some that don't get along with vintage blades.
You simply try a blade, keeping your other set-up close to your favourite, and see how it performs for you.

I find basically everything coming from St Petersburg to be an excellent blade and everything else some variant of less than excellent the exclusion being feather who are also excellent though short lived

Bumping this thread as it seems a fun topic. I have a heap of blades and if I found a blade that didn't work, I just kept buying razors to find a home for that blade :D
Exceptions were dorco, derby, never found a home for them. There were blades that were OK but I ran out of them and didn't buy any more due to cost (better bargains elsewhere that worked as good). Examples gillettes, kai, wilkinson, polsilver.

I have some blades I would get rid of if I lost the razor that made the blade work, eg crystal/Israeli's only work with a NEW for me. Red personnas worked well only in some other vintage gillettes - I think slim and flare tips.
Astra were the 'almost work in anything else' I regularly used, but not optimum for those mentioned and some others.

I've already sold my flare tips so I would sell my red personnas if I didn't have a slim. I would sell my Israelis if I didn't have a NEW or open comb of some type. Without those razors I would just stick to feathers in a tech/feather portable, and GEM in a SE of course.

TBH my opinion is if the blade only works well in a few razors then it sucks and doesn’t stick around, should be able to use any blade in any suitable razor and get good results IMHO.

As somebody who has been known to use the QShave and MingShit (thanks @todras ), my opinion is not to be trusted but I enjoy the Astra's in certain razors but have a great dislike for the Wilkinson Blue (India) blades :punch: Bought a 50 pack when I started as they were cheap and being new to wet shaving thought, oh these are fine but stopped using them as they continuously gave me heaps of nicks, causing me to give up wet shaving. Upon returning I used them again and hated them so gave them to my old man :shame: Have since got a few sample packs with the popular blades but continue to stick with a few brands: Astra, Merkur, Muhle and Rockwell which I don't mind but will try others such as Feather, Kai, Gillette Blue, Voshkod, etc going forward. As with everything too many choices but not enough time to try them all.

Oh man if u are okay with Rockwell getting into feathers or the better Gillette is going to be soooo enlightening for u

In case anyone gets their noses out of joint due to the in-jokes between friends and so forth: my blade preferences are no better and no worse than anyone else's preferences. I would not use vintage blades or Polsilvers out of choice however many people do and get excellent shaves from them. As a few people have mentioned, it's all down to personal preference, type of razor and what suits people in their individual situations.

There are so many good blades out there, the best advice is to find one that works for you well and stick with it, try others sure but always make sure your own shave is the best it can be :)

This post is too big.

:P

One day I'm going to do a spreadsheet for my DE blades so I can work out what blade goes with what razor and which are more universal.:)
That's what we're supposed to do isn't it?..........
I'm still enjoying changing my set up daily so I haven't established any patterns yet (except I love straights........ oh and DEs and SEs, yeah I love you too guys).

If Voskhods don't work in a razor it is a bad razor :D :D :D

Terrible blade, I should have mentioned how bad they are earlier in this thread :D

This post is too big.

:p

Lol thats why I posted what I did..you know..in case anyone gets the wrong end of the stick in regard to the joking!

Wow. I can't stand Rockwell blades.
I have a 100-pack that I will never use that you're welcome to...
I was planing on burning mine.... if the model t is ever released

I found an open pack of Merkur blades the other day and used 1 yesterday, and again today.
It seemed much better than when i first started using them on day 1, obviously with proper technique now.
I still put it behind Astra and Personna red which have been my day to day blade lately.

I also found an unopened pack of Derby which i'll try maybe tomorrow and see if they do any good on my face...

I'm well aware which is why I have put off experimenting with more common/popular blades (y) Rockwell's seem to work fine for me, nothing special and with the abundance of choices available to me in the sample packs, I look forward to trying Feather and the like. Happy shaves everybody!

If it helps I find derby to be perfectly fine blades, different grinds for different kinds.
