Homelike Shaving Start Loan

Wilkshire13

The Torch Whisperer
Hey guys, unsure if this is the best place for this post, but please move it if needed.

I've got a Homelike Shaving Colibri with the 1.10mm, 1.30mm, 1.30mm OC & 1.50mm plates, but it gives me some odd shaves and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

As such, I've been thinking about the Homelike START razor but would like to give one a spin before committing to the purchase of another $200+ Russian razor.

Would anyone be interested in loaning me one if they have it? More than happy to loan the Colibri out in return.

Hit me up if you are keen(y)

Cheers!

The buy/resell option is all well and good if you're prepared to take the financial hit. Some of us like to call our razors "investments", but I've noticed that most have to be sold at a heavy loss or not at all. Trade's nice though, as there's a good chance of a win/win for everybody.

Depends on your investment though...don't think I'd be loosing anything on my BBS-1 ;)

As @Gargravarr mentioned, selling the razor will come at a heavy loss, unless it's a sought after razor or discontinued. That's a lot of time and money to flush.

As for @Matt7777 by odd I mean inconsistent. The same blade and plate combos give a good shave one time and a different one the next. Change plates and have a horrible shave followed by an effortless BBS. Some shaves are less efficient but no irritation, some are close but not so great on the skin. Doubtless my technique need work with the razor. But I'd like to compare the Start razor and see if I fare any better with that before buying one and moving on the Colibri if I can't agree with it

I have the Start. It's well made, super duper smooth, drawback is that it too mild for my daily shaving routine. Max plate gap is 1.18.. This approximates to Karve SB C plate level efficiency. It has no blade feel at all, knowhere near as agile as the Colibri, The Stainless Steel finish on the Colibri is significantly improved over the Start.

@rhodes96 I have heard that, hence my reluctance to buy it. I think the blade exposure on the Colibri is aggressive in comparison to my usual razors, so I wonder if the START will bridge that gap

I concur with @rhodes96 the START is a great STARTer kit but too mild for a seasoned wet shaver like yourself. Unless your level of aggression is DE89 with Derby blades I would not recommend it. The industrial feel and weight of the razor is similar to Karve with #C #D plates delivering much better results. Hence, why I sold on BST. I am interested in the Colibri but the narrow head with large blade gaps puts me off

The blade gaps seem large, but it is quite subdued. Only a hint of blade feel to know you are there. The exposed blade tabs are not an issue. In fact I actually like this as there is no way for a blade to get stuck due to those pesky wax dots on some blades. It is by far the most agile razor I own, and for that fact it's a keeper for me.

I nicknamed it the "Russian Ninja.":)

Thanks @rhodes96

The 1.10mm plate is fairly comfortable. I could just have the wrong blades in it I suppose. In my den the Game Changer .84-P is my go to as my favourite, followed by the Hawk V3 (SB & OC) then the Colibri. wasn't a fan of the .72 SS Lupo but I am very fond of the Carbon CX-316L + (.68) plate

Try the Minora SS blades.
