Info appreciated; Gillette 1917 Old Type V Gillette ABC

Hi, I've been having a ''vintage'' week shaving, solely using a Gillette 1917 Old Type which has the ''mandatory'' split in the handle. I'm really enjoying this razor and was wondering if any member has/had used this and an ABC set, if so was the shave comparable etc? The ABC set has the solid handle and not prone to cracking like the Old or The New types are.
Cheers in advance.

The ABC set is much cooler …

… but in all honesty - the shave is much the same.

The head is the same (pretty much) and the balance IS slightly different due to the solid handle and difference in size.

Shave wise - in my experience much the same.

Cool factor - go the ABC!

Why Gillette called it ABC? This isn’t a shaving bloody play school.

The Gillette Safety Razor Company launched their standard razor in 1903, the Double Ring 3 piece open comb model. In 1906 the Single Ring followed. All these models had a a thin cap and an open comb base plate attached to a hollow handle. It was held together by a threaded tube inserted into the hollow handle and screwed into the razor's cap. In 1908 with an aim to offering shavers a premium product - Gillette collaborated with the AMERICAN BUTTON COMPANY or ABC of Newark, New Jersey to produce razors in different styles. Six different cases and sculpted handle designs were the result of this. Some razors even featured the Gillette Diamond head logo on the top cap.

I used to have one Les, it was a superb shaver. Let it go to get a Modern razor awhile back. It had the original plastic case too. The Old Type remains on of my favorite vintage razor followed by the Kirby Beard & Co - Leresche #77 and the Gillette Goodwill.

The handle and the case which was an ABC creation made the razor look like a priceless antique. To me these razors were superior to those that followed in later years. They were just more efficient. Then again, that's my personal view.
