I've got a Slim on the way, any tips?

Not in my experience. I found the slim the same. Too mild on 4-5, lots of gliding over the lather. Too rough further up, and not much of a better shave. Blade made no difference, just either sharper or rougher. Fatboy was surprisingly better.
Really? Thanks @Drubbing .
Mate I thought it were just me but what you describe is precisely what I'm finding so far. I will persist but that is some assurance. Otherwise a nice Slim might appear soon on the BST - and I'll just have my Weber and NEW…with the latter being replaced by an R41 (2013). Might also consider trying a Fatboy in its stead.

Slim is a great razor. I do find that it needs to be held right out on the end of the handle for best result for me...this is what buggered me up with my 34C as it is the opposite for me and needs holding close to the head.

The best thing about the slim...it lets average blades like Derby and Vokshod show their best at a 6-7 setting.
