I feel a little bit like Alice going down the rabbit hole. About to take the plunge and order some lapping films.

I’ve read @rbscebu Honing on a budget manual a few times now

Just curious - what are people using as they’re “substrate” to support the paper.

Once you are consistently getting great shave-ready edges off the lapping films, you will probably want to move on to the keenest of edges obtained with diamond pasted balsa.

If going down the composite substrate route, get three ceramic tiles and five 900mm x 8mm thick pieces of balsa. You will eventually use them all in your SR journey.

I have used the backside of Shapton glass stone. I tested with a straight ruler and it was flat enough.
