Long time shaver, first time poster

Hey guys,

A mate from work @J.Mac let me know about this forum after I got a small chip in my straight razor (careless rinsing!).

I've been having a bit of a read and it looks like @Mark is the guy to go to for all my honing needs. I messaged @Mark1966 by mistake, so great way to get my name out there as the annoying newbie.

A bit of background on my shaving experience -

- Started off using a DE: Merkur Heavy Duty 34C Razor (After some trial and error I eventually had great shaves using Feather DE blades)
- After finding Feather was the brand for me I moved to Feather Professional "Artist Club" DX razor, naively thinking it was going to be the same as a straight razor. That being said, I found the shaves really good even compared to my next razor...
- Dovo Solingen 5/8 razor. Picked it up as a refurb online - got a fair bit of use out of it and kept it pretty sharp with just a strop.
- As of now I now use a Hart Steel 6/8 razor. Love using this razor and was devastated when I created a small chip while rinsing it (clipped the tap with the blade). So hopefully @Mark can get it back to it's former glory!

So that's me. I've already read a number of interesting posts and look forward to getting more involved in it all!

Thanks mate, I'm hoping so.

I'm overseas at the moment so it looks like I'll be shaving with a plastic disposable razor. At least I have some good soap to use.

Nooooooo. Can't find a DE??

Welcome anyway. Don't worry about being the annoying noob just from one miss fired PM. That would be me. :D

There is a huge shopping complex near where I am staying (Manila, Philippines) so I will go hunting for one tonight (couldn't hurt to add another DE to the collection :sneaky:

Welcome mate - I thought that the name was new to me in the PM :)

I use a Sensor Excel when travelling - two blades are not too many to put up with and a decent soap and brush make a lot of difference.

Safe travels!

Welcome @Flash - I am sure you will have a great time here!

What bushes and soaps/creams do you use?

Cheers @alfredus.

I have two brushes at the moment, I have one from Aesop (it's badger hair, they now only use synthetics) and a fairly well used Geo F. Trumper SB5.

As for soaps -

GFT Eucris - this has been a long time favourite, but the soap I currently have seems to be of the new batch that dries up way too quickly
Penhaligons Bayolea
Tabac - I think everyone had/has this
Aesop Shave Serum - I like this one in the summer time it's pretty light on my skin which is naturally quite oily

I'm in the market for a new brush (and always looking to try new soap - especially anything with that old-school barbershop type scent) so if you or anyone else has any recommendations I'd love to hear about it.

I've found it interesting reading about peoples different preferences so far

Welcome to Paste & Cut, @Flash . Nice set of soaps that you've got there.

Shaver Heaven make a nice old-fashion Barbershop scent soap. Soap maker, @Anthony is your man.

What's your preference for a brush? So many choices out there.

Awesome, definitely everything you need through this forum!

I was looking at getting a Simpson brush but it's a pretty big investment and I don't think the chubby series would fit in my brush stand!

Check out the shaver hut sale if still going - bargains on some Simpsons

Make sure you get the BEST Badger, and stay away from Pure Badger is too scratchy and Super Badger is too soft not enough backbone ;)

Hi there @Flash - great to have you join in. Once you're able to send off your razor to @Mark he'll be able to repair it if possible and have it superbly honed to boot.

It sounds like you haven't allowed your face the pleasure of a vintage str8? I'd ask @Mark for a vintage blade to be added to the return parcel. You name your price and he'll find you the best blade for that price. You'd be surprised what you get for $40, $50 or up! [emoji6]

Edit: I forgot to ask what aftershave/s you use...?

Thanks guys! I'll have to have a good look through and see which one to get!

@Mark1966 couldn't find a Sensor Excel but got a Vector for about $5 so hopefully that will do the trick haha

Yeah, anything with few blades I find acceptable. Different to DE but carry on luggage approved and keeps everything in check!

The brushes that @SpeedyPC linked to are gret prices for those - beleive a price rise is imminent too. According to @Nightguard there is also a discount code, GOBADGER, for an additional 10% off.

The price on the Chubby 1 in particular is pretty amazing!

Price rise is already in place at mensbiz, $219.00 for a Chubby 1. And yes, the discount code GOBADGER is still working. Even on the already discounted stock.

WOW - so $134 for a Chubby 1 here vs $219 at Mensbiz under the new pricing, that is about 40% off - pretty decent deal if you are in the market for the iconic Chubby!
