So we did May Madness... one soap for a month.

I'm thinking that is too easy. How about we do a @Drubbing February? One soap, one brush, one razor, one blade (type - change it out if disposable), on splash/balm. It's a short month so that's only 28 shaves. Trial your "desert Island" kit. See if you really could live on a single set-up.

What do you think?

What's this Half a month thing? I do that all the time as do you I guess. When I travel I have only one kit for a couple of weeks but then I have no choice in the matter. Having a drawer full of stuff would be harder.

I have no idea what my kit would be. I had thought to make it my new Shavemac but the handle split today so it has to go back.
I guess it would be Paladin... and then there are the new splashes on their way, and then there is that side "thing" I have been thinking about doing.... Hrrrmmm getting cold feet already!

Nah, regular rotation of brushes at home and pick and choose soaps and splashes - rarely on the road for that long. So even half a month would be unusual.

If you are saying I don't qualify and can't participate well then, you are the one setting the rules, I'll just have to maintain my usual lack of discipline

I've been having the same brush and razor with 2 soaps (one of them already finished) for 6 weeks now...I'm going to enjoy my gear when I'm back home + the 2 new brushes that are hopefully waiting for me

I don't think you guys understand the reason for the sabbatical at least my reason.

At this stage of the journey I would like to master the skill of wet shaving. Ie. how to extract the best lather possible of a puck of lpl soap for example? How to get the best shave out of this straight for example. I found myself jumping from one product to the next without the understanding of what made them different and worse how to use them well.

I think this same thought applies here. I just need to figure out which combo I need to learn.

Ps. I thought you were supposed to rest brushes between uses? Or why do you a rotation?

Smart @Rami Minimising variables is the fast st way to learn. Swapping five or more implements of a shave each time you are never going to know why that shave was great and the other poor. Today for example I had a poor shave. I think it was the soap tomorrow I will repeat it exactly but with a known soap. That should confirm it.

This is what I do anyway! Except less shaves in the average month.

Yes. My shaves are now more consistent but not improving as much anymore. Now I need to work on the problem area. That's where the other pieces come in education and experimentation.

I generally only shave with whatever is in the shower anyway, so I would just need to remove a couple of variables and I'll be set.
If I choose wisely I can probably even manage it without even changing blades.

If you guys go ahead with this, it would be a really nice gesture to get a sponsorship going on an informal basis and we kick all the money to a registered charity, I think we could use it as a vehicle to build our community a little and do some good for the community at large..along the lines of what 'Movember' does. It goes without saying that it would be a tax deduction.

I will put $150 of my own money up to sponsor someone and will donate to the registered charity of their choice, verifiable by a screenshot of the donation - B&M did this recently when he won a puzzle competition and I thought it was a very nice gesture of giving particularly in light of all the money spent (myself in particular) on soaps, razors, creams, brushes etc.

That's my take on this anyway, other people may have vastly different conceptions or may not want at all what I am proposing. I'm just getting it out there in the spirit of discussion

The more I think about it, the more I want to try it. See how much I miss the variety.

Sorry, but I gotta say that's one of the worst ideas ever, at least for me. It's the very antithesis of what I enjoy about this hobby. Know what comes to mind? The scene in Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange where they force the guy to watch scenes of violence and depravity for hours on end while not allowing him to close his eyes or even blink. But, hey, y'all have fun.
