Morris & Forndran

I received an update from Brad earlier this week that I only just got to reading in my inbox...

Bad news for me and a bunch of other people who have Lee working on their brushes in the UK, English customs is holding a large order and so far is refusing to release the handles and or knots. The knots and or brushes were grabbed by customs on 1 November.

I will post an update if I hear any more, can anyone else please do the same.

When did you order the brush in the order cycle. My order was placed about 1 day before processed closed. Always assumed my handle would be made in December and brush finished early February. Guessing Lee is far better at knot making vs dealing with government bureaucracy.

Paid for my brush last week to Lee - but no picture was shown... let's see what happens

A bit of an update from a guy who spoke to Brad's wife about the M&F brushes that customs has. I posted a question on /r/wetshaving where I hang out and got the information there.

It's looking like Brad is going to have to make the handles over again and then ship them to the UK, the expected turnaround time is 6 weeks and they are planning on sending out an email over the next few days in this regard.

I was wondering about this only this morning @todras thanks for the update.

I wouldn't normally do this but I may reply if I get such an email and request a change to my knot selection.

I'm guessing you have given up on all the stupid, out of control sizes and materials that are bigger than your whole face and will be requesting only boar in 18mm.

HaHaHa not quite.

I was lucky enough to pick up a brush with the same grade hair the I ordered whilst I have been waiting so would prefer to change grades now. I guess I could always just order another now and not take the original if it cannot be changed. I haven;t bothered asking already only because I thought the brush was well and truly on the way.

So when they are finally be released there will be a lot of spare handles looking for knots ...

I remember you were kind enough to show me some of your awesome brushes when we had our meet up and I have to say, if you ever get sick of that butterscotch Paladin and want to sell it or say, even trade for some Polsilvers come to me first

So, I'm here in London and the doorbell rings. I happen to be shaving and my wife answers the door. She tells me 'Someone called Lee dropped something in for you.'

So unfortunately I wasn't able to chat with the great man himself. I did however get my hands on a spectacular brush.

Beautiful!

HMR&C will require the remittance of VAT 20% + 3.7% on top of that figure, so an effective tariff of 23.7% in Pounds Sterling payable prior to the lots being released. The imposition of this tariff would make the brushes prohibitively expensive so Brad is giving up on them apparently and will make the handles anew.

I'm a lot like you @Mark1966, wheresas you can't resist a spreadsheet I can't resist a bit of prescriptive legislation and delegated authority by way of Regulations, especially on NYE so here is a link to the tarrif designation for brushes in the UK from HMR&C (including shaving brushes). I note that the calculation of duty on inbound items it at the discretion of HMR&C and they are tough, almost immovable on their valuations.
