Morning all!

Straight razor shaver here from Brisbane. Only been wet shaving for about a month, but picking it up quickly.
I'm looking to start learning about honing and sharpening razors so I can eventually be self sufficient. Would love to hear from local members who would be able to give me some tips or help teach/show me how to correctly hone razors.
And also recommendations on who I can take my razors to for sharpening until I learn what I'm doing.
Hope to speak to most of you soon!

Adam

Welcome Adam!

We have a fairly healthy straight community here (DE man myself) with a number honing and sharpening at least their own if not others. @Mark can fix you up for a very reasonable price though I believe.

What sort of soaps/creams/brushes etc are your favourites?

At the moment I'm using an Edwin Jagger badger brush and enjoying Crabtree & Evelyn Moroccan myrrh and trumpers lime both soaps at this stage. Still haven't had much to do with creams. As I haven't been wet shaving for long, I've been sorting out razors and strops etc more so than other accessories. I can see that changing once I've got a couple of blades in rotation.

Welcome @Spawnless, great to have another Brisbanite on here, we are multiplying!!! What side of the river you from?

Make sure to get up some pics of your gear and tell us about you weapon of choice.

I'm Southside bris/north Gold Coast.
I picked up a grim blades straight as my first razor, once I started doing a bit of research i noticed a lot of people don't have many nice things to say about the company and reviews of the blade itself are non existent online. I'm not really able to comment at this stage as it's the only straight I've used, but it has consistently performed for almost a month, being used every day. I have a older French frameback coming soon from eBay and a T.I. also. I'll pop pics of them all up for you guys to see

G'Day Adam and welcome to the insanity - I'd only be too happy to help with honing and restoration of the razors that you have.
I love my TI (7/8 with horn scales and Spanish tip) and I would expect a vintage one to be even better. I think I may have one in the resto drawer.
Hang on and enjoy the ride

Welcome to the fold, I'm a new member myself, it's great to have another on board. A thoroughly decent and welcoming bunch of people here :)

welcome aboard mate from bit north of you
I do like he Crabtree & Evelyn Moroccan myrrh also

the Grimm's have mixed reactions indeed, but the Frame back & the TI 69 especially should be very nice once cleaned & honed up
I did up a TI 69 for the Son in-law (I should have kept it) that was a great shaver

Thanks cranky, yeah it's only the beginning.. But a good variety there.. Would love to find a good condition blade so I could make some snakewood scales for it.. I love the look of snakewood straights..

Welcome @Spawnless - you're off to a flying start! Plenty to move into after a few more razors - strops, hones, soaps, aftershaves, brushes... [emoji6]

You're in good hands with @Havachat45 - enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

Welcome @Spawnless - great to have you here and enjoy the journey (y)
