New Shaving Brush

A few decent brushes there. Be aware that the Simpson Harvard in H1 is tiny brush, a huge change from the Chubby.
Lots of people like the Shavemac 177, although I've had one that shed tremendously.

I'm a bit of a Simpson fanboy so would recommend the Duke 2 in best. I see that Shaveshed stocks it.
I know it's not a badger, but one that I rate very highly is the Epsilon Horsehair 27mm from Gifts&Care. It comes in at around $60 landed ands is excellent value for money.

Be careful with horsehair if your skin doesn't like it you'll end up having a bad skin rash for a week or two :sick::sick::eek::oops:

The Shavemac pure is a poverty pack brush. Pure is a very low grade. Calling it pure makes it sound better than it is. I have long gone cold on Simpsons after owning a few. The hair is excellent but the shedders in the high end brushes is a real problem. Sometimes handmade ain't better.

I wouldn't discount a Muhle or Jagger synthetic. Synths make incredible lather and have none of the quality issues associated with Badger.

@Monsta_AU has that Vulfix 374 Super badger if I recall correctly and can give his opinion on it.

@SydBJW and myself have the St James of London 24mm Super badger (Simpsons knot). It's a beautiful brush and fits very nicely into my line up. They have the "gel tips" (or "hook tips") that are sought after by some. The tips produce a silky smooth feel on the face. I highly recommend this brush, and also TSW - excellent customer service and attention to detail.

A few of us (@silver is one, @Lifes a Peach has had one, @stillshunter is another...) -including myself- have the Shavemac #177. This 23mm silver tip badger is a excellent all-rounder brush which is good for face and bowl. It's also a stable in my line up and made me appreciate a decent badger. I think that the German brushes and knots are higher class than the English (but that's debatable ;) ).
Some (like @MrT) prefer a Shavemac fan knot (cf the bulb of the #177). But you can also get a Flattop too.
TSW has the Shavemac #177 too -but not in all colours. @shavetheman gets in a LOT of quality brushes as he really likes his quality brushes!

Also: Gifts & Care is a great website to buy from. Recommended. Especially excellent with the Vie-Long horsehair brushes.
If you're going international, then you best also compare prices with Connaught Shaving and Shaving.ie as their prices are EXCELLENT (including postage).

Juan from Gifts&care is on here occasionally. There a voucher code (P&C) which gets you 10% off.
It didn't work the other day but I emailed them and they credited me the money back.
Juan is regularly here -usually posting the latest deal. But he does occasionally interact.
But he (and all of G&C) is EXCELLENT with customer service and ship many different alcoholic products.

Hi hi,

I have both the chubby 2 and the shavemac 177. I guess depending on if you know exactly what it is that you are after, the shavemac is a relatively safe choice for your next brush.

The chubby in my opinion is an amazing face lather scrubby brush. I love how dense and how your face feels so ex foliated after using it. Took me a while to get the hang of it.

The shavemac in comparison is just such a versatile brush. Soft to your face but it has a good amount of back bone to pick up my soaps. I mainly use soaps. It's wonderful with creams too.

Depending if you'd like to try something softer than the chubs, or venturing into the boar Territory, which is what I have came to love as well. I have two amazing boar brushes, the stinky omega 48 and the amazing semogue owners club which you can get from gifts and care. I'd recommend the boars for a great experience. Not as expensive as well.

Or perhaps a custom Rudy vey 2 band shave mac....yum.

Just my humble 2cents.

Have you tried a boar yet? If not then a Semogue is what you need to try. Cheap risk and you can buy with confidence onshore from @Anthony

To me easy choice for the first brush is likes of the 820.

Don't laugh, I've cycled through many a Simpsons, Thater, shavemac, etc., and they have all been sold on in preference for my boar brushes

I am in love with my recent purchase of a Savile Row 3124. Amazing brush.

But my understanding is that these use knots from Shavemac, so a 24mm Shavemac should in theory be just as good (if the rumors are correct).

I haven't tried a boar yet. I actually have the Semogues Owner club brush on my wish list. So that will probably be my next purchase down the track.

Thank you everyone for your input, I have purchased the St James of London 24mm Super badger last night. I do however know have 3 more brushes on my wish list haha, so a few more months and I should have a great arsenal of brushes (y)

Yes, I have the Vulfix 374 in Super. Nice brush, just a little small for me and rarely sees use unfortuately.

Honestly, the St James of London brushes are amazing and a steal for the price. Looking at them during the Sydney meetup was an eye opener.... pick up the phone and talk to Con, he will tell you the one to get.

Also, you should not discount the Syths. Different experience but extremely user-friendly and makes mountains of ridiculously smooth lather. I'd recommend the Crown King range at PAA, although I wonder if Con will ever get stock.
