BOTH sizes will fit. The most important thing is M5 (5mm) inside diameter.

The reason why 8mm x 0.8mm is the correct size.

1. Most modern DE razors (95%) have a head thickness of 8mm to accommodate a 4.48mm x 0.8mm thread. Most Older DE razors have 8mm head thickness to accommodate a 4.31mm x 0.79mm thread. (10-32 thread).
Due to the head thickness and to have a washer that sits flush without overhang, the 8mm will fit athestically better (no overhang) than the 10mm size.

2. The 0.8mm size when threaded between the bottom plate and head of the handle will look invisible to the eye in most applications. The 1mm in most applications will be visible. This is even more evidient in some razors that have a 8mm x 0.2mm slight protusion into the top cap for a snug fit.

... I've gone with the
M5 x 10.0mm x 1.0mm
but really either would be fine

The outer diameter 8mm vs 10mm is only important for baseplates like the Weber. Although I suspect looking at all the handles that DON'T work with the Weber, the 8mm outer diameter might be too much as well.

The thickness (0.8mm vs 1mm) doesn't make any difference at all.

Now here my own 10 cents: I first came across these washers, from people wanting to protect the perfect polishing work on Wolfman razors...the problem is, that they are also perfectly machined and putting a plastic washer in them just hurts aesthetically. So I got a bag of washers, put one in once and never did it again...sadly I also cannot find them anywhere :(

With other (stainless steel) razors that are not perfectly polished: who cares :D:D:D

I’m pretty sure the leaflet that came with my brass Karve said the washer was for shipping only and it should be removed when shaving. Seems each razor is different re the washer

Why I've not confronted this issue before and sought guidance :)
 
To be fair i'd just take two set of punches and make a number of those out of PTFE sheet. Cheap, easy, can make any size, PTFE > Nylon for pretty much anything. Depending on PTFE sheet available can be made any thickness.
