Shave of the Day 2015

What made it average? Hardware, software or both?
The lather was a little foamy at first but that was my fault being a Marco. But I worked on it and it came good - boy @Anthony makes a good slick soap. Brush was also fine - pretty blah really as I still think it lacks that certain something - that je ne sais quoi. So I'm thinking hardware. Probably leaning most towards the IP Reds as they aren't really working out for me of late. But could also be how they marry with the Rocket HD - as pass one was fine and very smooth, but when the going got rough XTG and esp. ATG it got a little less smooth very fast. I cannot get BBS below the chin with the Rocket.

I even had some cockroaches eat the tips of my milk churn :(
Yuck! What the..?!?
Did you see the blighters?!? The nasty beasts. Reminds me not to leave my brushes out overnight. It's not just me that wants to eat some of these shaving soaps...!

Sounds like just one of those days... [emoji58]

I like a lovely sharp blade with a vintage Gillette. Could be the time to bust out one of those anti-Stillsy Feathers.... Load up a Feather and give it a shot I say!

Brush: Duke 2
Razor: Weber
Blade: PSS
Soap: Johnny Goodsir TMBR
Aftershave: Johnny Goodsir TMBR & 444

Damn fine improvement on previous shaves. JGS lather is spot on - if I had to nit-pick I'd ask for a touch more glide. But this does give you even more control....sometimes you can have too much glide I reckon. So not sure what you're doing wrong @Nonick but work on that lather mate and you will be rewarded. Oh boy the scent of JGS soap - there is nothing better in my cabinet.

My 2nd shave of the year and the second cold water shave with warm lather. Seems to be the perfect combination for me. Will investigate this further :)

Yesterday and Todays sotd

Jabonman 10/10
The RR Nonno Michelino goes really well the soap

Stirling was 7.5 maybe a 8/10
Stole my C&E Soap Bowl and used the Stirling inside.
Love the Jabonman! Such a great soap. [emoji106]

I think the Sharp Dressed Man is my favourite scent in the Stirling soaps. The balm is a great compliment.

Brush: Virginia Sheng synthetic
Soap/Cream: Speick Original
Razor: Progress [3.5]
Blade: Personna Super/LB [3]
After-shave: Myrsol Agua Balsamica

Brush: Thater 49125
Razor: Weber
Blade: PSS
Soap: Speick
Aftershave: Myrsol Antesol

Close to a perfect line-up - great lather, great shave, great recovery

Merkur 37c Slant
Permasharp Super (1)
Mike's Hungarian Lavender
Plisson Synth

Every few weeks I'll rotate the two razors I have had out in 'active service' (try to go with one aggressive one and one mild). So the 37c and a Slim came out yesterday. So the Plisson whips out this dreamish lather with the Mike's, it was the stuff dreams are made of - not a bubble to be seen in it and oh so thick - I swear I can't reach for another brush recently as the Plisson just gets it done so well, so easily and with so little soap - plus it's a quick rinse and shake off being 'as it was' before use.

Anyway so I do the first pass and it's fantastic - I did state that the Muhle R41 was superior to the Merkur 37c and perhaps in some regards it is BUT the Merkur is so much more carefree and comfortable to use. Blah blah blah I'm so infatuated with the lather and brilliant performance of the 37c that I go ATG essentially all over.

Now, perhaps this works well for others but I'd forgotten that my skin does loves the 37c WTG - very happy with it - one pass and done, brilliant. But ATG it consistently proves to be too much.

A few mins after rinsing off my entire neck feels like it's been scoured with a steel brush!!!! I try the Aldi Prince Anti-Irritation Balm (which is far nicer than the moisturising one BTW) - it barely makes any difference.

Thankfully my home juiced up witchhazel with loads of menthol finally eases the scritch but it was the worst irritation I've had in many a year.

Gotta love the Plisson and its love affair with lather. These French, eh!

Sorry to hear if your over-zealous 37c - they seem to have a taste for skin. (Like the R41 has a taste for flesh!)

My SOTD was the same as y'day.

I'd hoped to try one of the samples that filibiliolovic and Nonick sent me this morning, but after a really bad nights sleep, Wifebert who is due today, finally managed to get back to sleep so i daren't creep into the bedroom to retrieve the samples.

Instead I went with Speick stick, which provided a perfectly acceptable lather
ERR - did it's job
Polsilver SI on 4 (how many shaves do you tend to get from these) that was still smooth and sharp
Omega 10005 - shedded a hair
Alcolado Glacial - heavy on the alcohol, not quite as heavy as I would like on the menthol with a very light lime scent.
I think Osage rub is supposed to have a higher menthol hit @borked but will still look for a sample bottle when I remember if you still want to try it?

Hey @eggbert - trusting and [and the risk of the good-natured wrath of some around here! :) ] praying that Wifebert goes well and that both come through the experience, whenever it happens, safe and well.

Im not giving up on this Stirling soap, but the scents are so dam awkward.
Barbershop - smells like playdoh
Again my experience is the opposite to evey review i have seen.
I found i could get a great thick laher but the slikness was not of that as many of my other soaps - good but not great.

Thanks. As long as there is no clapping!

Yikes! Playdoh eh? Hmmmmmmm well thats one of the ones I ordered too.......you know its funny as I was in 2 minds whether to can the order or keep - is funny how the balance between these seems to be for every half dozen or so good reviews one bad one offsets it completely (in my silly lil mind anyway).

I have to say I've rarely seen a brand of soap that gets such conflicting reviews on it's scent. I know that by their very nature scents are very subjective and thus personal BUT Stirling really head and shoulders above all others seems to either have folks fawning over it's scents or the same one being scorned! Quite interesting and has me looking forward but also somewhat scared to receive my *gulp* eight soaps!

As they're very aggressively priced (a.k.a cheap!) vs other artisan soaps - I wondered if they might be using some nasty fragrance oils - as everyone says their soaps have a BIG scent - and as they're cold process soaps they're using a lot more scented oil in them than hot process (reading a book about soap making at present, fascinating stuff!) - so not sure. Barbershop is a classic scent but is a very generic and open to interpretation one - as opposed to say one that very specific e.g lime or anise. I'll be interested to compare it to a known Barbershop soap I already have thats very well regarded, Mike's.

Sorry to hear that again the Stirling buy hasn't been great - bet you're glad you got samples eh? *gulp*...oh thats right I got 8 full sized pucks! :censored:
