Shave of the Day 2015

Always good to meet another Canon man. The 7D is a formidable beast...esp. married with fast glass (like the 50/1.4). Not many cameras are equal to the challenge of a 3 y.o i-flight, but an absolute doddle for the 7D!!! My old 5D MkII can't compare and is probably only good for eating and sleeping shots, but I so do like the full-frame files it creates.

Yeah I really like the 7d. I've considered full frame but to be honest in day light it's pin sharp and for indoors I pair it either with the 50mm f1.4 or my 680ex flash. My only other lens is the 17-55 2.8. This kit seems to cover anything of importance to me.

Woke up late this morning, so just a quicky - 1 pass neck only. Makes me look tidy enough for work, but only takes a couple of mins start to finish.

Meeting with @Monsta_AU today in the CBD to deliver his SC soaps too.

Ahhhh so this ^^^^ is a preemptive excuse for -

Brush: Omega 31025
Soap: Wickham's Spice Trade
Razor: Weber PH
Blade: Treet Platinum
Post-shave: Ogallala Bay Rum, Limes and Peppercorns

Cracked open the Spice Trade sample I got from Wickhams. The smell is divine, and the lather is like no other....well maybe neck and neck with Jabonman and Occams....or maybe a nose in front. I still have another 3 sample tubs to try, but I will buy at least two full-sized tubs based on my preferred scent. MdC pffft!

Everyone was making fun of the Treets so I thought I'd give them a whirl. Not bad for a second tier blade. Pretty sharp but not as smooth as a Gillette Black or PSS IMHO. But not bad.

All-in-all an OK start to the day.

Brush: #620
Soap: Wickham's Bay Rum
Razor: Feather AS-D2
Blade: Feather (1)
Post-shave: Ogallala Bay Rum and Sandalwood

Inaugural shave with the AS-D2. From what I've read so far, the Feather SS has a learning curve, so I am very much looking forward to where I end up two or more weeks from today - was quite nice, very smooth. I look forward to getting a little closer in some areas. Curiously it's not my usual areas of difficulty - those are smooth for the first time - but normally smooth regions are a slightly sandpapery. So I assume once I get my angles and technique down, I might achieve this so called "BBS". So far I can see this razor will excel at the ATG pass - much smoother than anything I've used so far.

@stillshunter A shave match made in heaven. Blade matches the razor and post shave matches the soap. I'm really looking forward to reading about experiences with this razor over the next few weeks. How is the 620 breaking in?

Razorock XXX, Vie-Long 12705 horse hair, Merkur Progress, Personna Lab Blue (4), Proraso aftershave

Great shave this morning. Nice to remove a few days growth too. Still LOVING @filobiblic's Progress too. I may even prefer it to my Weber...

It's been ages since I've used XXX. Not sure why. It's a great soap. Very slick with a pleasant scent.

That Vie-Long is a great brush too. Big. Soft. Holds a crazy amount of lather too - I probably could have done 5 passes! I have lent out a few of my brushes, so it was either that or the Plisson. Filo has my chubby and 620, and I just lent my 10066 to a friend who I'm trying to get into this crazy hobby (he texted me yesterday saying 'Best shave of my life! I can't stop touching my face'. Lol.)

So he will have an account here later this week??

Fatboy, Vintage Wilkie (2), Soap Commander Vision, Plisson Synth, Alum.

No hair on my face. Slight nick on a pre-existing bump. Win.

Brush: #10005
Soap: Dapper Dragon Signature
Razor: Fatboy Exec
Blade: Schick PP
Post-shave: Floid Vigoroso + extra menthol

For some reason I thought the black tub was my B&M Dickens, and I was amazed how much the scent had changed - I couldn't smell the cherry at all. Had to check half way through the shave to confirm my mistake. For those who wondered what this one is supposed to smell like:
The signature scent of the line. An old fashioned barbershop sort of smell, with a twist. Lemon, lime and blood orange combine with cantaloupe for a bright top end, supported by soothing oakmoss, spicy lavandin, and fiery black pepper.
Without reading this just before I had a shave, I doubt I could pick apart those flavours, it is a nice scent though.
Good lather, but my first nick (slice) in a while by not moving the razor far enough from my face when changing position.

Interested in that one as well - the only boar I might be interested to try, as it definitely won't be floppy. Have read somewhere about a batch of scritchy theaters, maybe you were unlucky...

A floppy boar?!? I'm not sure that's a thing... I've got a few boars now, and not one of them is floppy. That's why people love boars - more backbone than a cuttlefish!

The 630 would also be worth looking at. Same handle, slightly higher loft (@filobiblic disliked the 620's short loft), and higher grade bristles (semogue grade their boar bristles), but may not have quite as much backbone, as it has 90% of bristles at full length as opposed to 75% for the 620 (Semogue rate their brushes on the % of tops. The lower the number, the supposedly more backbone, as the slightly shorter ones help to prop up the rest). The 630 also doesn't have that stupid fake badger stripe painted on.

Brush: Erskine Butterscotch re knot
Razor: Merkur 37c
Blade: English Wilky (6)
Soap: Le Pere Lucien
A/S: Myrsol Aqua Balsimica

First use of the Erskine, thanks @stillshunter, lathered up the LPL perfectly. Another very close, easy shave with the 37c. Also first use of Myrsol Aqua Balsimica, perfect follow up to the LPL, very nice scent and great face feel.
