Many thanks to @rbscebu for the PIF of this razor. I finally have a reference edge to compare with my own honing attempts. This is the first razor that has passed a HHT for me. The hair literally pinged off the edge with a light touch, like wow, that's never happened before. Okay, so that's what a shave ready edge should be like. Usually, I'm scraping away with my (non) shave ready blades and end up swapping it for a shavette with a fresh blade, or a DE if I'm in a rush. First time handling wood with a cyanoacrylate coating instead of lacquer. It's given me a lot of ideas about how I would go about re-scaling some of my other GDs. Good shave. Not sure if it is 'smoother' than a shavette loaded with a new AC blade. I'll have to give it a few more shaves to find out. Also really need more straight shaving practice.

I fondly remember shaving with that razor.

As the edges is keener than what you are use too, flatten your shaving angle for a smoother shave. It will feel like you are not cutting whiskers but you are and the shave will be closer.

As for the cyanoacrylate, I now rarely use it on the outer surfaces of my scales. I prefer the look and feel of natural timber that I get with a beeswax finish.

  • Razor Gillette Adjustable FatBoy (5) G1
  • Blade Viking Sword – Super Stainless Steel – Polymer Coated
  • Pre-Shave Tricare Goats Milk
  • Brush Vulfix Pure Badger
  • Cream Proraso – Red Sandalwood
  • Post Shave Thayers unscented Witch Hazel
  • Aftershave Brut Splash
  • Balm Nivea – Sensitive Pro - Post Shave Cooling Balm

The Morning Shave.
The Viking blade was in my 1961 Gillette Adjustable FatBoy today.
1st use on this blade. I was lucky to have a few of these PIF for a participation challenge.

A beautiful indulgence shave. 1 slight weeper but no irritation.
Love the Proraso Sandalwood, and really nice scent.

The Viking blade was very smooth, these blades are manufactured by Personna in Israel.
They feel very comfortable, could easily be a daily shaver's blade.

I’m another year older today (72) and it’s also our (me and my better half) 15th Anniversary (hard to forget when it’s on my birthday). So for my BD shave I'm using Squadron Dispatch Rider soap was my 1st Artisan soap I purchased over four years ago, when I started my Artisan soap collection, scent described as: “A marriage of Vetiver and Finest French Lavender, fresh and earthy” and maybe a bit of Sandalwood. The Rockwell 6c was also purchased around the same time on recommendation from fellow TAWSE members and it was the razor that helped save my DE shaving journey, although not my current favourite razor which is the Karve ALU Overlander. Also using a wonderful Custom brush made by Troy Craft “The Bishop” (which is a design based on the vintage “Tall Strong Set“ brush).

THE GEAR:
  • Pre Shave: Tri-Care Goats Milk & Glycerine Soap from ALDI [A]
  • Brush: TroyCraft “The Bishop” (Tall Strong Set clone) with 24/54 APShave UK Fibres knot [A]
  • Soap: Squadron - Dispatch Rider [A]
  • Bowl: Whispers from the Woods [A]
  • Razor: Rockwell 6c with Plate 3
  • Blade: Super Shave X Multi-coat, made in Wenzhou, China (1)
  • Astringent: Jennai Body Care - Aloe Vera Gel with Witch Hazel & Vitamin E [A]
  • Balm: G&M Australian Creams - Emu Oil MkII [A]
  • After Shave: Proraso Sandalwood (Red) AS Lotion
  • Moisturiser (Later): MooGoo Natural Full Cream - Hydrate[A]

Titan ACRM-2 T.H.60 half-hollow 6/8 Dutch point dressed in African black wood timber scales. This blade blade has never touched a whetstone, lapping film or pasted balsa strop. It has been honed from factory edge to shave-ready only using the denim strop and cerium oxide paste that came with the razor.

The shave was smooth and comfortable, except for the fool's pass that took a bit of effort. The edge on this razor is not up to the keenness of a diamond pasted balsa edge, nor a hard black Ark edge. It is more like a vintage coticule edge.

The blade's bevel is convex both sides. If I ever decide to take this razor to the stones, I will first have to properly reset the bevel.

Aah! This place just would not be the same without @SpeedyPC.
Still hoping for a SOTD photo some day…….. c’mon just one?
Hope the recent surgery yields some positive results?

My left eye has failed, I've lost 70% vision and glasses won't help at all, therefor I'm partly blind for life in my left eye.
However, in the centre of my eye the vision I see is shaking, it's very difficult to focus and concentration to be able to see normally throughout my normal every day life, and my brain has totally turn off my left eye.
Therefor my brain is only focusing my right eye as my everyday life, and the retina will fail in the future, because, I was born three and a half weeks premature, so my right eye will have a retina detachment fail in the future.

When I was born premature, my left eye what badly shoved into a deep corner, I had surgery when I was three years old to completely straighten my eye left. As I get older throughout out the years, my left is getting weaker and starting to fail, and had a retina detachment. The eye specialist couldn't fix it or save it, because, I was born three and a half weeks premature. So, it's done and it's over.

When my right eye fails in the future for another retina detachment, fail, I won't be having surgery. I will be put to sleep end of life, done and dust. I have enough, I'm seriously mentally tired, being born cerebral palsy, totally profoundly deaf with a cochlear implant, and partly blind in my left eye. Also, IF, I ever get cancer in the future, I'm not going to have cancer treatment. I've had enough now, I've been through a lot, very rough and hard throughout my life.

My whole family agree, my will is done, I've had enough fighting and struggling throughout my life, enough, is enough.

I don't want to talk about this, any further. Please leave it alone, because I've had enough, I'm seriously mentally bloody tired.
