Shave of the Day - 2025

25 March - SR shave No. 1,923
E eventually got the Titan ACRO T.H-70 finished on the Jnat Kyoto whetstone to shave about as well as the Gold Dollar 66 off the same stone. That took a LOT of work due to the T.H-70's hard steel.

This morning I compared the T.H-70 off Jnat with an identical T.H-70 finished and maintained on diamond pasted balsa. One razor was used each side with sides being swapped with each of my three passes.

Pre-shave = Pears transparent soap (India)
Lather = Palmolive regular cream (Italy)
Brush = Chinese no-brand synthetic in a homemade handle
Razors = Titan ACRO T.H-70
Aftershave = Wahl bay rum (80%) + Dickinson's witch hazel (20%)

Pasted diamond left-hand side - Jnat right-hand side
The difference in edge keenness was only noticed in my fool's pass with the pasted diamond edge out performing the Jnat edge. Other than that, the only difference between the two was in shave comfort where the Jnat edge out performed the pasted diamond edge.

In future, I think I will only do a fool's pass with a diamond pasted balsa edge.

  • Razor : Gillette single ring pocket edition 500 B (1918).
  • Blade : Feather Hi-Stainless (1).
  • Brush : Yaqi Ocean 28mm Synthetic.
  • Soap : The Goodfellas' smile Shibusa 2.
  • Aftershave : Cella Original Splash.
  • Weight : 52 grams
Hi all,
Great shave today with the Gillette single ring.
I find these older Gillette’s are a bit more efficient
And a bit more unforgiving than the later models this is my opinion only.
The new feather blade worked well in the razor but did leave me with a bit of irritation after the shave. I think this is because I was out of practice with this razor.
The Goodfellas’ smile Shibusa 2 is a great soap with a nice on the face feel and good cushioning.
Finished off nicely with Cella aftershave.

Cheers.

No, some SV scents are polarizing for me. I have 3 and I sold some, they are enough. I would like scents from a single oil, but with SV it is impossible. ;)
I had samples of their whole range a little while back, I found them all just too much for me. The soaps perform well though.

How do you feel about the Lav & May Chang? I've always thought the latter smells like a a sweeter version of lemongrass, I hope that doesn't make it cloying?

The scent of Lavender & May Chang is very light or light, it's not very cloying or overpowered, which is just right.

Link below from Paul directly from Connaught Shaving supplier, the next batch will be available in May.
