Shave of the Day - 2025

Thursday Afternoon 13/03/25

  • Razor : Yaqi Ghost TI 90 DC. (safety bar/open comb) "open comb side"
  • Blade : Feather Hi-Stainless.(1)
  • Brush : Yaqi Caramel Cat Whiskers synthetic.
  • Soap : Noble Otter Orbit.
  • Balm : T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel.
  • Razor weight : 58 grams.
Hi all,
Good after work shave yesterday and the first meaningful rain this year.
I shaved with the Ghost TI 90 on the open comb side and in my opinion I like it better on the
safety bar side.
Just to be clear the previous shave was 2 days growth yesterday was 3 days growth.
I felt the razor didn't shave as efficiently with the open comb side, sometimes it can take a few shaves
to dial in the angle on an open comb.
The hybrid plate design was the main reason I wanted to add this razor to my small modern razor line up.
1 pass WTG/ATG and a few touch ups done.

I really enjoyed the Noble Otter Orbit the scent is very nice as was the fresh feeling after the shave a little like
Proraso green on the face but the scent has more going on.

I hope you all enjoy the coming weekend the footy is back! (AFL) for me. 🥳

Love Lodrino La Rviera and the 4711 has been a staple in the house since childhood. Would you recommend the Shield Gem Ti mate ? as compared to other Gem Razors?

Awesome soap and love that Razor. The OC needs a few shaves for sure and yeah it is more efficient than the SB side, I use the OC for a few days growth on the first pass and then the SB to clean up whatever is left. This razor is so nimble, smooth and efficient.

I believe this soap might have been about the last product Valobra made before they closed their doors, so it's not really that old. It's not even slightly stinky or musty.

16 March - SR shave No. 1,614

Comparison shave between:
  1. White Tail - Gold Dollar 66, 14th shave after being finished on an unknown Jnat and only stropped on clean leather between each shave.
  2. Clear Tail - Gold Dollar 66, finished and maintained on diamond pasted balsa after each shave.

The clear-tail's edge was just a tad keener but the white-tail is still noticeably more comfortable to shave with.
 
Pre-shave:- Cold Shower
Bowl/Scuttle:- Captain's Choice
Brush:- Whipped Dog High Mountain Badger in Tall Amber Resin 24/55mm knot
Soap/Cream:- Mike's Natural Soaps ~ Orange, Cedarwood & Black Pepper
Razor/Blade:- iKon B1 Standard with Bulldog Handle / Gillette Stainless (red & white) #4
Post/After-shave:- T.N. Dickinson Witch Hazel Astringent mixed into the 240ml bottle with Invite E High Potency Pure Oil (10 drops), Natural Plant Glycerine (20) & Tea Tree Oil Antiseptic (5)
Fragrance:- Davidoff Cool Water Wave
Tonight Tipple:- Ardbeg 10yrs old
