This is my first time using Speick, a soap that has many fans. I like the fact that this one is comparatively low-impact in terms of packaging. I don't generally go in much for sticks, though I'm not dogmatic about it, because they sort of disrupt the flow of my normal prep routine (I normally let Pears soap soak into my hide while I build my lather). I guess I could work around that, but I didn't.

There's no arguing about the performance of this soap. It's a true hard soap (and will therefore last a long time), and although based on a veg formula, it's slick as a greased pig. One in the eye for the naysayers who claim that only tallow is any good. I had no trouble achieving a perfect GBS in no time at all.

However, I don't think I can ever learn to love the scent. Sure, there is some lavender in there, but for me, that was entirely overwhelmed by the despicable stench of patchouli. Eugh, yuck. :yuck:

Our noses are so weird! I don't get any patchouli in it: for me it is a true alpine fougère: spruce/pine, lavender and, of course, speiknard which is the spicy note. It's a shame that it triggers that for you because, as you note, it is such a great performer. I'd suggest sending it to me for correct disposal, but it is one of the few inexpensive options readily available here, so I have quite a stash of it already! :D

When you smell lavender for too long or for many years, your brain clashes against patchouli. Basically means your scent of smell is very relaxing towards lavender, and patchouli can be harsh against your scent of smell which is normal, patchouli is meant to be a sharp smell as lavender is very relaxing.
