Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson 'The Duke'
Soap/Cream: Mike's Natural Shaving Soaps - Barbershop
Aftershave: Myrsol Formula K

I think I'm working through the Myrsol range this week. Together with the brush rotation the changing aftershaves are adding some variety (it is only day 10!) which is nice.

I'm also very glad that I chose a good soap to stick with too - the Mike's may be falling out of favour but it does perform well!
 
I'm a bit late since I shaved last night but I do believe [with reservations] that my straight razor apprenticeship is over. :) I know words spoken in haste.
I really do have to recommend the steel in a Russian straight. The shave was so smooth. Only my observations but the Russian razors 1950 - 1969 certainly seem to be the very best. Those marked as Extra seem to be about 11/16" which is a very nice size blade.
Soap, brush and scuttle all performed perfectly.
Top shave and it is still DFS+ 14 hours later :)

So a special mention to the St James preshave oil sample. The packet says 'good for 2-4 shaves' I've been using it for about three weeks two drops of oil each day and it's still going strong. Less is more here. I think it's improved the shave. 'Get out of jail free' card for a bad shave and only improves a good one. The scent pairs with the cream, a dry tart mandarin which goes better than it sounds! It has staying power - often smellable after the myrsol has dissipated. So match it carefully or it competes - seems mandarin and mango get on well, though being from different trees.
It's the one that has shined from the st James sample pack (worth adding to an order id say) the creams I'd put along side Tobs. The post shave gels weren't bad but hey, I have Myrsol so...
When it runs out I may try a small dab of olive oil to begin.
Weird thing it's in the sample pack but not being stocked locally.

Quite a pricey blade! The manufacturer claims they are ice-tempered, which hardens the steel, resulting in a longer lasting blade. Admittedly I am a 2-pass shaver so that probably helped. I wouldn't call them sharp, like a Feather or Pol, but the performance was consistent right up to yesterday. This morning it felt like I was beginning to push my luck.
 
Well if it's no more than 3 or 4 times the price of a Voskhod, it's probably still viable. I seem to only be able to push them to 4 shaves. I'll have to try the Timor soon.
 
I don't like lathering straight out of the soap container i usually scrape less than a tea spoon into the bowl and then lather up i always get tons of lather must be the size of the bowl and the way i add small amounts of water as i work the lather up.
next time i will try half a tea spoon.
 
The Russian adventure continues. I had basically 1 and a half passes as the shave last night was so good. Still a commendable DFS [in most places :) ]

The experimental brush I made with a 24 mm boar knot is really good. I have since turned 2 more handles for a horse hair and one other Boar knot. Horse 140 mm and the Boar 120 mm. Both lofts 55 mm.

I have yet to decide on finish for them.

Why - your lather looks great @cranky and that's more important than saving half a teaspoon soap ;)

Mastro Livi Carbon Damascus "100 Layers", 13/16 Extra Hollow, Square Point​

Still on the road and still traveling with this Mastro Livi one hundread layers carbon damascus razor. Today's shave was also the occasion to test this Omega Hi-Brush Barber's Pole. After having tried for a long time to get an Omega brush with a Hi-Brush loft, I finally managed to buy one in a shop. I opted for this lovely barber's pole handle which was, in my opinion, a little disappointing. The barber's pole usually consists in a tube with spiraling stripes giving the well known effect when in motion. This brush looks like a real barber's pole only if you watch in from the front, while if you turn it to a different position you do not have the spiral effect anymore. As for the loft, I must say this Omega Hi-Brush is very good, certainly one of the very best synthetic brushes I have ever tested, very soft yet being quite stiff, giving a nice feedback on the skin as well as being very good in mounting lather. The finishing touch was provided by Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve aftershave, one of my favorite fragrances. I simply love it!​
