Shave of the Day Thread - 2017

Tabula Rasa 'Herbs' / Semogue Boar / Lone Wolf straight + Milord with Gillette Silver (8) / Floid 'Vigoroso'

I purchased two straights from another forum member recently and was waiting for the weekend when I had more time to try them. I have used quite a few Feather type shavettes and a straight a couple of times, but still quite nervous with this shave ready Japanese Lone Wolf. I used the amazing Tabula Rasa soap - incredible slick lather and great post shave feel - to maximise my chances of not shredding my face

Two passes just on the cheeks and neck while I get used to the feel of this razor. It was almost as sharp as the Feather type shavette, but seemed somehow a little easier - no nicks or cuts. Very smooth finish. Tidied up other areas with the Gillette Milord and was satisfied with my first attempt. Will try again tomorrow after stropping (I stropped a few times after using this morning to dry the blade).

Sydney meet up today - so glad I didn't have to go covered in blood and alum

Absolutely faultless shave tonight. Tonight's shave was after a few days of not shaving. Soap performed very well as expected and the Timeless made very short work of mowing the whiskers pretty much on the first pass. Loving the scent I still had to have my three pass shave with an awesome post shave feel from the APR Mycroft products which I am really liking and very much enjoying. Got to be happy with that

Thanks @Benjamin - I will run out of razors soon . I do confess to being very lazy so I usually have everything packed away and forget to take an image.

There are a few blades that you have mentioned in the past that I haven't seen yet. I'm hoping that the Japanese frame-back and your near-wedge to show their faces at some point.

I like to use the SOC boar to aggressively load from triple-milled soaps such as Penhaligon's.

Those Wilkie French Browns are superlative blades. @Monsta_AU and @Mark1966 brought them to my attention. Like you, I've also used them with an ATT Kronos (M2 and R2 open comb plates) - superb. And of course they are right at home in a Wilkinson Sword Sticky.

Those Wilkie French Browns are superlative blades. @Monsta_AU and @Mark1966 brought them to my attention. Like you, I've also used them with an ATT Kronos (M2 and R2 open comb plates) - superb. And of course they are right at home in a Wilkinson Sword Sticky.

You're not wrong. It was exceptionally smooth for a first use blade. I'm curious to see how it goes for the next 10+ shaves.

Tabula Rasa 'Herbs' / TSW Synth / Hasegawa 'Lone Wolf' + Fat Boy 1960 / Gillette Silver blade (9) / APR 'Bay City' splash​

Relaxing Sunday morning shave - took time with the Lone Wolf straight again - two passes everywhere except top lip - very smooth. Tidied up with the Fat Boy . No nicks or cuts - different experience to the shavette - that was almost too sharp - one wrong move and it was blood donation central. I stropped before the shave with 60 laps - certainly seemed as sharp as yesterday, so didn't stuff anything up too badly

Finished with the sample of the 'Bay City' from APR that @todras kindly shared at the meet up yesterday. I am a Bay Rum fan - this is more like a "grown ups" Bay - without the Rum or the clove. I guess Im used to the more "punch in the face" style Bay Rums - this version is more subtle and refined - as I would expect from APR! Very moisturising and lovely post shave -feel after some initial tackiness. I will certainly try again over the next few days - the scent is more subtle than the Mycroft, General and Alfred's Choice that I have tried. A classy refined scent for the cooler weather.

Finished with the sample of the 'Bay City' from APR that @todras kindly shared at the meet up yesterday. I am a Bay Rum fan - this is more like a "grown ups" Bay - without the Rum or the clove. I guess Im used to the more "punch in the face" style Bay Rums - this version is more subtle and refined - as I would expect from APR! Very moisturising and lovely post shave -feel after some initial tackiness. I will certainly try again over the next few days - the scent is more subtle than the Mycroft, General and Alfred's Choice that I have tried. A classy refined scent for the cooler weather.

This is fairly spot on as I had no intention of making yet another Bay Rum scent, and therefore you will not find any clove or rum in Bay City. What I did want to make was a Black and Red currant fragrance that rested on the finest West Indian Bay oil available, a fragrance that was ideal for autumn and winter. I wanted a scent that had longevity, that had lots of heavy, long lasting labdanum, benzoin and other balsams and that's really what Bay City is about - it works very well as a soap too I am happy to say.

It's definitely not one for kids, and certainly not one that smacks you in the face I made sure of that - I really wanted to avoid a face burner as the market is deluged with coarse, hard hitting face slapper's full of bay oil, rum and cinnamon and quite frankly most of them bore me - the exception being B&M Bay Rum as he uses no clove oil.

I will say it now, if you like hard hitting Bay Rum's that burn this will not be your fragrance. There are a bunch already on the market that do this and do this well. It's called Bay City as it contains Bay Oil and Sydney is a harbour/bay city.

@Snooze I would suggest using Bay City for a few days before deciding on it, there is a lot of nuance below the surface that will emerge during the dry down (10-20 mins after application). It's a very complex fragrance with a lot going on through the multiple accords, but it does have a really bright currant top of fruit and caramel notes.

Not for everyone, definitely for me
