Shave 14 of 28 - 3 pass shave in the shower. Can't wait for this challenge to end :yuck: On the bright side my face feels nice and refreshed from the menthol in the Cube preshave soap :cool: Happy shaves and enjoy your night! #blade_of_glory

Great shave, I Never thought I would be able to shave every two days on a regular basis without major irritation but, fingers crossed, it's looking like it's possible.
Suitably Attired Summer is my favourite splash that I own. It's too bad that summer is coming to an end and it won't be possible to use it anymore ;) I guess I'll have to buy a different one :happy:

Before I started DE shaving, I could shave, at most, twice a week. I would usually only risk it once a week and sometimes I'd just go the 'lazy beard'.
Now I regularly shave every other day. I can even get away with two consecutive shave days when circumstances dictate. ie: Job interviews.
But then I need to take it easy for a few days. The perils of terrible skin.

DE shaving has taken something I dreaded and turned it into something I enjoy and helps improve my skin. (And the community helps heaps too!)

Well the first thing to remember is that they do two entirely different things in most cases. Aftershaves are designed to sterilize the skin and deliver fragrance while balms are designed to soothe, moisturize and repair the skin. Balms by definition contain substantially less fragrance than aftershaves which is the way it should be, Aftershave 'toners' are basically in the same class as balms in most cases.

If you have sensitive skin, or skin that reddens after a shave then I always recommend an aftershave balm first (the Stray Whisker After Balm is an excellent fragrance neutral balm for example), to provide a barrier between the skin and the alcohol in the aftershave and to begin skin repair as needed. All of these factors are dependent on the balm being of high quality, and containing a correct number, and quantity of compounds.

In the case of AP Reserve aftershaves however this is not necessary, my aftershaves are designed to replace balms and I have used specific compounds in specific strengths so that you get the best of both worlds while maintaining a high fragrance component. I did this as for many months in Australia the weather is not conducive to applying a balm without it becoming unpleasant or too heavy and I wanted to deliver a high strength of fragrance that goes the distance.

Thanks for such detailed reply.
The toner explanation is a question I would eventually asked. I have seen them listed and wonder if they were different to std aftershaves.

I have been using the Stray Whisker after balm since I started wet shaving but yeah it is just so uncomfortable on a muggy day/night.
