Today’s shave began pretty ordinary as after the 1st pass, several spots of blood appeared. After the 2nd, a few more. Final touch up was ok. After a good run of the alum block, only 2 spots needed the styptic so overall I guess not too shabby.

Not sure whether to put this down as the razor or the silly Vidyut blade. Was it’s first use so hopefully tomorrow it fares better!

In other news, a donut is appearing on the soap now.

had the urge for a LaVioletta experience this morning. I absolutely love this scent, and the more i use it seems the more i am appreciating the smell. Would have to be my favourite scent out of all i have

The Imperial Rum is great for a muggy afternoon.

Squadron Soaps Coronet Fougere is great. The splash is a bit lighter on the scent then some other splashes, but there is enough there. The soap opens up amazingly when lathered.

For anyone looking to fill a hole left by General Ledger (@RustyBlade) this will be a close match.

I do not but, now that you've mentioned it, I'll give it a try. I noticed that they are much thicker than my Super Blue Blades & Thin blades from the 70's

My first shave with a decent brush in more than six weeks and it was pure heaven! Still with the rest of the travel kit but they are all excellent products (with the exception of that last one, which is included mainly for its travel friendly packaging and the fact that a little goes a long way).

The new boar I picked up from the Italian supermarket was benign out of the box but after a ten minute soak it had me wondering whether our septic system had packed it in! What a stench! A couple of consecutive palm lathers with hand soap and shampoo dealt with most of that though. The brush is plenty soft enough for me (particularly given what I have been putting up with recently - all I could grab on the road when I lost my brush was something with synthetic bristles the thickness of a stiff toothbrush!). The only "break-in" issue for the 48 is it does steal a bit of the lather from the second and third pass when new. That habit should go within a week or two if history repeats.

Otherwise this is my goldilocks brush after a good soak - the higher loft is just perfect for lathering up a storm without having to use any pressure. And the combination of the strong bristle with the split tips is just magic - make mine a boar! The fashion for low loft brushes these days is also not an improvement - they require more pressure and more work - for me at least. Glad I had an excuse to get another one of these while I wait to get back to the den...

I'm interested to hear how it works out for you.
I believe there is someone else here that has some carbon steel DE experience.
From my understanding, carbon steel blades are what DE's were made of before stainless steel was used and were stropped/sharpened multiple times for multiple uses, so could work out quite economical and may work better in the older vintage razors too.
