Agree smooth and efficient, although 3rd shave was rough for me. Similar experience with the Israeli Viking Sword blade. Great blade, come shave number 3 and the shave experience suffered enough to bin it. Only the last Feather and Wizamet blade, and most likely Gillette Stainless have lasted more than 5 shaves for me. The Wizamet I could have gone more than 9 shaves as it was still smooth, I was not happy with the effciency, blades I have multiple lifetimes worth, so time to move on start fresh.

Those Mühle guards are great for razors that fit them. They just fall off razors like my GC-JAWS unless I take steps like holding it in place with a rubber band. I usually just remove the blade and stash the razor in the little leather baggie that came with the JAWS.

Those nicks are a bastard. Once you catch a mole or scar, it seems you are doomed to repeat that for the next few days. I used to get that a lot with my 34C, but less with my R41 (go figure) and never (so far) with the Vector, even with a Feather Pro Super blade. Maybe a different blade choice?

Thanks for asking, yes I'm back at home as of yesterday. Still feeling a bit weak (the venom works by destroying all your muscles), so I'm supposed to stay flat for at least another week, but on the mend now... (y)

Tomorrow will chuck on in the R96.. was thinking of it today but wanted to see if I got 5 shaves out of this blade as it is uncharted territory for me

Incidentally, I spent a couple of years back in Thatcher's Britain (everyone was broke) using Imperial Leather as my shaving soap. That was before I went on to Pears. It actually worked quite well, just a bit on the lean side as far as cushion was concerned. I've always thought cushion is overrated anyway, maybe those years had something to do with that...

i really can’t say, it was one of those aftershaves that were around then, maybe Brut 33, old spice? Imperial leather? I have no idea what any of those smell like now but I def smelled them all when I was young and started shaving. Or it could of been something the old man had in the bathroom.

but it def takes me back to those days it’s strange a scent you don’t particularly remember brings u back like that

Gillette‌ 7 O'clock SharpEdge Yellow works well for me. I find it slightly more efficient and longer lasting (more shaves per blade) than my old standby, the Gillette Nacet. YMMV.​

Had a similar reaction to Cella Aftershave. Cannot say I ever saw it around the house but as soon as I smelt it was the "old man"

It doesn't scream PEAR! as much as thought the scent notes led me to believe. Off the puck, I only smelled soap. When lathered, reminded me of those fruit scented handsoaps in a hotel (better than 4 stars) bathroom. Not exactly the jammy pear gourmand I thought it was going to be. There is a touch of baked goods in there, but less homemade pie, and more McDonald's deep fried apple pie. The ginger added a little tingle to the skin but not much by way of scent. Excelsior base is excellent as always.

Pre-shave:- Cold Water straight from the tap
Bowl/Scuttle:- Captain's Choice
Brush:- WCS Two-Tone Tall (Blue & White) Extra Dense Synth. 26/56mm knot
Soap/Cream:- PAA ~ Gondolier CK-6
Razor/Blade:- Muhle Rocca R96 v4.0 / Voskhod #2
Post/After-shave:- T.N. Dickinson Witch Hazel Astringent mixed into the 240ml bottle with Invite E High Potency Pure Oil (30 drops), Natural Plant Glycerin (20) & Tea Tree Oil Antiseptic (5)

Since I've kept the previous Rocca v2.0, I've swapped the handle over from the R94 to R96.

The R94 is slightly heavier than the R96 handle, however, the R96 felt grippier than the R94 and the R96 handle felt more comfortable holding in my hand. I find the R94 with a slightly heavier handle has more balance and comfort control during the entire shave.

For the last few years I've been oiling my razors with Jojoba which does a great job but I'm assuming Jojoba must be slightly acidic as I've noticed a slight green tinge on a couple of razors like my Gillette Slim after being coated with it. So, time to try some Camelia oil.

Japanese Camelia Oil is good stuff - I use it on my custom Japanese Chef Knives.
