/ The Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10% + HA

The Iceni is an Italian citrus cologne type but simpler, which is by no means a bad thing. Thirsty but excellent performer.

Pre-shave: Hot shower
Brush: Semogue Mistura ‘Taj Mahal’ badger/boar mix
Soap: Salt Lake Soaps ‘Persian Lime & Lemongrass’
Razor: Cadman ‘Bengall’ straight
Blade: N/A
Post-shave: Alum block, Pinaud Special Reserve, Armaf ‘Club de Nuit’

My first complete straight shave to DFS standard with NO safety razor touch up required. This Bengall came to me from Dion at DC Blades perfectly honed, but I managed to screw the edge somehow. Probably from amateur stropping efforts, who knows. In any case, now that I have acquired some stones and had good results honing my other two straights I decided to touch up the Bengall and soon had it popping hairs. The resulting shave gave me confidence to tackle the under nostril area and chin that I often have left to the touch up DE razor.
Slow and steady, even put my glasses on for the final steps. Now I need to look for some more straight friendly soap, any favourites that you can recommend?

Well done. (y) Others will no doubt chime in, but I'd suggest any of the better hard soaps, eg DRH, Tabac (old formulation if you can), or you could do what I do and spend way too much time and money chasing jewels like NOS Valobra and Yardley... They don't have all the butters that the artisan soaps do, and not too much cushion, just lots and lots of slickness.

Some would suggest arko, but I wouldn't do that to a friend.

My current three favourites when I'm using straights: MDC, SV and the current line up of Acca Kappa soft shaving soaps. TABAC tallow formula is also great if you can still find it (I have no experience with the new formula).

Glad to hear persistence is paying rewards, slowly and steadily she goes.
I did some research on wet shaving forums 18 - 24 months ago and the most consistently recommended soap for wet shaving was Tabac. (original tallow version)
Second most recommended would have to be the Proraso enriched line of soaps specifically formulated for wet shaving

I have Tabac and can recommend it along with any of the other top tier artisan soaps/creams or triple milled as recommended by @Gargravarr, however my go to at the moment and surprisingly good. I'd go as far as to say 4 x better than Tabac is Geo.F.Trumper Spanish Leather. Makes Tabac and many others feel a bit lackluster.

I'm down to my last 7 Cadman "Bengall" SR's now. They are all great shavers and only beaten by my Puma.

My currently preferred soaps for SR shaving are, in no particular order:

Palmolive Classic cream (Italy)​
Palmolive Classic stick (Germany)​
Tabac tallow stick​
ARKO stick​

Of those, the easiest for me to buy is the Palmolive cream that is readily available in my local IGA. Tabac tallow is getting very hard to find now, even online. I've only got about 10¾ sticks left.

Readily obtainable soaps that Ive tried and liked. There are more but I can't think of them right at this moment. They don't have to be tallow or hard soaps.

Continuing my dalliance with the DRH, this time with a beautiful Forgotten Art brush that @TroyTools so generously included with my first Troycraft brush. How it came to be in his possession, I don't know. It's an interesting creature, possibly not a design that I might have chosen for myself, but it feels absolutely right in my hand. A TOB is a joy forever, and this one - now that it has returned home to Tasmania - is going to see a lot of use. Who knows, one day I might be able to take a picture that does it justice... :unsure:

Razor: Gillette NEW Short Comb (nickel re-plated)
Blade: Gillette Platinum
Post shave: Windrose Alum, Witchhazel, and Guerlain Vetiver

Apologies for the poor photo. My first shave with the Gillette NEW SC. Mild and comfortable and seems to shave just like a Tech. Easy to find the angle, and a small amount of blade feel. I was struck by how small and light the razor is. I’ll try a sharper blade next time.
