First time with the Gillette Sheraton. It took over a month to come from the US but it was well worth the wait. Not only does it look spectacular, it's a fantastic razor. If you can add one to your collection, I highly recommended one.

G'day. I keep my brush in a travel tube, which keeps it safe. You are right about those dog towels :ROFLMAO:. The only thing coarser is the dunny paper.
I do not towel-dry the brush - just shake it out very thoroughly, and leave it to dry near the aircon.

Started the shave with a feather I used last shave which went through 4 passes, two of which were ATG. First pass WTG felt a little rough so swapped it out with a wizamet and welcomed a remaining super smooth shave.

The brush is way to springy and you need to really push down hard to get a splay and keep it splayed. This makes it terrible for face lathering, although once a lather is built up 'painting' strokes are amazingly smooth. I measured the loft on this and its only 46-48mm. This is what unfortunately kills this brush as the fibres themselves look and feel excellent.

Having re-read your post, I mistakely thought you were referring to the towels at mining camps, which are not known for their softness.
The dog bowl bumps are actually quite soft, and I have no fear of brush damage. To be sure, I swirl quite lightly with no downward pressure - whips up a lather in no time.

Those bumps in the dog bowls are great for breaking in boars... :cool:

Sandalwood is another one of those earthy, manly scents I love about wet shaving and a first class soap (Shaver Heaven blue tub) like all Shaver Heaven soaps. Great to use the full wedge.

- Meissner Tremonia Warm Woods soap

Notes:

The Zenitth Manchurian XXL is deliciously scrubby. Strong backbone and not even a hint of scritch. The scrubby tips aren’t as soft as a silvertip of course but are gently exfoliating without irritation. An amazing knot at any price.

Very easy to load, and holds enough lather for three passes with plenty left over. Releases adequately though not as well as a less densely packed knot. The copper handles feels somewhat heavy on first use but easy to get used too.

A combination of sublime and ridiculous in this shave. Tried the CF balm for the first time, now it's available in Aus. (Mensbiz. Vshod have stocked the soap for years.) It's very nice indeed, and keeps the lavender love happening. Its only downside is it's even more expensive than the soap, and that's saying a lot.

That was the sublime part. Less so was standing on a slate floor shivering, to the extent that I was in serious danger of slicing myself. Luckily that didn't happen, so all good. (y)
