If course we should also check out Maguires - a vendor here - lots of Omega boars!

SHOCK! HORROR!

Proraso being discontinued - replaced with...new look tube and no parabens. Great, so now it won't last 2+ years.

OMG they're changing everything Proraso! Aaaaaaahhh

This is bad news. If you hang out YKW. Of course it won't be the same. Looks to me like they just want to jazz up the livery and make it appeal to younger blokes and the scared of everything that's a chemical crowd - but that won't stop em.

Just as well IGA has enough supply for a nuclear shelter. I could make a killing on BST if I was still cognito at YKW.

Well there is a new Proraso with Sandalwood.

You going to give it a try, Drubbing?

..........For easily repeatable SE results, find the razor that does the job with the head on the skin and no thought needed.

That's just about every other SE I've got. Just haven't used a 1912 model for months. And I'm rediscovering how aggro they can be. Very close shaves though.

Well how do you get along with the streamline or jewel then?
1912s aren't aggro compared to the 1914, 1924, streamline/jewel.
A 1912 is comparable to a gillette tech IMO, thats why they made them for so long and why they were popular.

No problem with a Streamline at all. Or a Clog Pruf. Tried a 1924 but didn't really like it too much. The head is just a bit too big. I'll get there.

Cella
Semogue 830
Merkur 34C
Derby #2
L'Oreal ASB

Another fine shave,. Which was good as I had to see my best mate get married off shortly afterwards. Restrained myself from trying to shave super close as I would have looked daft in all the photos with razor-burn!

Only posting as I tried something from my samplers:

T&H Grafton cream, Berk and Futur. Very nice scent but a bit of a fluffy lather. Worked fine though, and used the balm after. Might try it again tomorrow now it's open and use the Chub and a bit more.

TGN finest knot in another no name travel brush

Arko

Damaskeene GEM PTFE

Another disaster shave. I just don't get on with the model I've decided. Don't know what it is. Had the head completely flat against the face, in fact was sliding off it numerous times, went slow etc etc. Anything against the grain and it's off to the races. I'll persist for a bit longer 'cause it's really starting to piss me off. Might wait for a day or two to let the burn subside properly.

Got to ask pjotr, are the blade holder stops all there? Worst shave I ever had was in a razor that the blade had slightly jumped a blade stop on one side.
I could still shave, but I thought the blade was blunt or the lather bad, ie didn't tear me up, just scraped me up. Just seemed it could shave, just not very well.

Also is the spring OK? Maybe the spring that holds the back of the blade is loose so the blade is chattering? It can have some stretching/looseness, (my damaskeene has heaps of play with no blade in there), just as long as it pushes against the back of the blade when one's in there. All my other 1912s are very tight though, and that's how they should be. I just have to live with the damaskeene as that's what it is, so it's hard to replace. Any later 1912 model with a loose spring would have been thrown out, but I still can use the damaskeene just fine as the blade stops are solid.

If you have so much problems with a 1912, and only that razor compared to other SEs, bare in mind they are the model most common to have blade stops bent, broken or missing, and springs worn.

No the stops are fine and so's the spring. I too have had a bad experience with the MMCP when I loaded the blade wrong so I'm pretty paranoid about stops and how the blade is loaded. If this goes on much longer there'll be a Damaskeene PIFing your way. I'll keep the case if you don't mind.

Second time, and decided this Grafton is a bit crap. Prickly afterwards, and ordinary looking lather doesn't inspire confidence. Balm is still pretty nice though, but not at their prices.

WOW - I'll have to get one to try now....

Well if Glen can't help you out, the way things are going with 1912s, I probably can.

New parcel arriving today - give me a day or two to sort out whats what and then it will be the great duplicate PIF.

No name travel brush with TGN Finest

Arko: Not as yoghurty as a few I could mention but an OK soap. Nothing too much wrong with it. The cirus scent as always will draw comparisons with mosquito coils, industrial cleaner and urinal cakes but I think it's unjustified in this case.

GEM 1912 with PTFE blade on No 3.

Finally got a decent shave without undue razor burn. However, I don't think I'll ever load a new blade in one of these which is why I started using a Featherweight for that purpose in the first place.

Godrej Rich Foam
Frank Shave Silvertip
Merkur 34C
Derby #3
Dickenson's Witchhazel
Stella & Marco ASB

Easy shave but the Derby is ready to go on the scrap heap as expected after #3. The Godrej definitely benefits from a little palmolive cream in the mix IMO. Adds a bit of cushion which can fall away as the Godrej gets nice and slidey.

R41
Blueu NOS blade on its fourth shave
Proraso cream
LE Semogue Badger
TOBS Eton Cologne

I didn't nick myself on the R41 today. I found most of the reason is user error. I was getting careless, and reverting to small stabby passes which is reminiscent of cart shaving, instead of one sweeping pass from top to bottom.

So the razor, whilst unforgiving, may not need to be sent off to the farm just yet.

Tomorrow I will try a Voskhod, then after that a Gillette Black.

I may even switch that, as RM is keen to hear about a Gillette in one of those.

And yes you read it here first - I am admitting that I have cut myself due to lazy technique.
