Shave of the day

I was thinking of putting my hand up for this but as I started typing in the post I realised that even though I have only been in this game a month I think I have enough shaving related items either here, or on their way.
I already own
  • EJ DE89 Barley
  • A Gillette kindly pif'd by Pjotr (yet to be tried)
  • 120 odd blade samples
  • 100 Voskhods on their way
  • Aus Palmolive soap and cream
  • Proraso cream
  • Cheap Coles bristle brush (now relegated to travel brush
  • Frank Shaving finest badger brush
  • The cream lot from here (btw he packs items really, really well)
  • Alum
  • A small amount of Speick aftershave to try
  • Sandalwood soap, Ice & Slice cream and a few samples from Nanny's

Other than the aftershave, I reckon I have over two years worth of consumables, and am still at the stage where one nice brush and one razor are more than enough in these inexperienced hands.

Mmmmm, let me see. You're very short on brushes, could do with a few more razors and I'm not sure your soap selection is is big enough. Put your hand up for the PIF in other words.

Couldn't agree more - when it comes to this stuff no such thing as too much - you never know when the industry will cease to exist - just ask Razormonsta why he has 10000 odd blades!
Get into son.

Just used the TOBS sandalwood cream from my B&B purchase. Much nicer smell than the Edwin Jagger sample i have.

I also realised that I had mapped the sides of my neck completely wrong and had been doing my first pass at an angle between XTG and ATG all along. Much nicer shave today.

Thats the last day for that Astra blade, so on to something different tomorrow.

I dare you to post the Jim Jeffries link over at B&B. We could be witnessing our very own P&C member on Interpols most wanted list.

You should see some of the stuff he says about religion (I went for a bit of a youtube-fest after watching the first one).

They would be rounding up a posse at dawn if I posted one of them.

GEM pat 1900 Lather Catcher
GEM SE blade
Cella soap
Simpson commodore brush in x2 best

Man SE is still king, that aural feedback, they way you don't feel any resistance when the blade is new, cuts through anything. (I keep even used blades for work, and they still cut through things that a decent knife couldn't easily do as cleanly)
Perfect for a one pass shaver on a busy morning before work, as you won't get an equal one pass shave with any DE. That's what I love about SE the most except for the sound of a lather catcher. Many go on about the sound of a regular SE, but the shape and construction of the LC make it a lot more noticeable, it's on a different level to the 1912 and MM.
Best thing is the stubble on my chin is wire, the main reason why I do shave with SE/DE, as they wear out modern razors so quick. But with a new SE blade, the tougher the stubble, the better they cut. DE blades and razors still have a bit trouble in my chin area. I can get a good shave with DE, but it takes 3 passes plus buffing in some spots though. Tonights combo breezed through it.

Unfortunately I haven't got an LC but to date the noisiest I've used is an ER 1924. Didn't like the shave but the big closed top acts like a sound board and makes an enormous racket. I don't mind getting side tracked with a few DEs here and there but always feel more at home with SEs.

Today's offering:

Peerless TGN Finest Frankenbrush

Tabac cream

Bar handled new with a Timor on No 2. Pablo, you're partly responsible for my NEW found NEW love.

No problemmo

Hey, I've only mentioned the NEW 4-6 times over a whole year since I've been here!
I don't like the ER pat 1924 at all. edit: It's the pat 1914 that some people call the little lather catcher, but again, I'm not a fan of that either. I prefer the MM clog pruf for the odd shaving day ie mowing down lots of stubble, and then the LC for more frequent shaving weeks; you'd have to twist my arm to go for a 1912 - they're OK but not as good as the MM or LC for me, and even then I prefer the earlier versions, eg damaskeene 1912 model over the later variations.
But the rest of the later GEM/ERs, I'm not interested in actually using to shave with.

I waited and searched for a long time to get my LC, cost me $70. A lot less than many razors out there made by gilette that are as desirable. Probably the most I ever paid though. Second most expensive was a locally sold pat 1912 for $50. But it was worth it as it with a british GEM, ornate handled style but heavier and different design, came in a bakelite box with strop and stropper handle in the same weight/style, circa 1950.

But I'm sorry if you like the NEW, next like me you'll want a NEW deluxe and british NEW etc. Chin up, I want them too but never went through with it, so just stick to my ball end NEW, my bar NEW is in a black and red case set that never gets used. Of course none of my razors are show ponies, (ironically except for my favourites - they are the best condition ones so I won't part with them because they shave the best), but the rest of them are not worth selling...

Yeah but only once is enough in my weakened state of mind to go out and find one just to stop the voices in my head.

.........and there you go again. Stop bullying me Pablo or I'll get a mod on to you! It's about time drubbing did something moderatorish.

Unless the topics turn to promotion of religion, gun collecting, hog shooting, hornswaggling, rootin' (or tootin'), bootscootin' or Justin Bieber, I don't see the point.

Carry on.

Is that the menthol version? How does it compare to proraso?

Hi eggbert. It isn't the menthol version. This one is mosty red with silver writing. Lanolin and beeswax in the ingredients. Bloody good I reckon for a couple of bucks a tube. Smells miles better than Palmolive or Fauldings too.

Can you believe, a couple of years into this caper and I still haven't tried the Proraso cream!

Voskhod blade
Progress (as I have lent out my other razors to newbies)
Godrej Cream
T&H Badger

lovely shave.....I don't mind the Godrej cream and for $3 a throw it's better than the Irisch Moos.

I didn't know the Moos travelled to Ireland...once one bit my sister...

At $8 from Stirling IGA how can you not?

My favourite for this time of year. Just as good as any tallowy or Brit stuff IMO.

Because I am too lazy to go buy it :)

Ah Missed your Godrej shave Jug. I'll go the Godrej again tonight if Sachin can ton up today otherwose the Cella...I'm going to have to buy some of this stuff before my Drub sample runs out!
