Shaving shop Picadilly Arcade in Perth

Troops,

Anyone visited this store in Perth before? It's got shocking reviews online but it could just be a hate campaign! I know it's expensive but they stock stuff that I'm interested in and it's easier to hide from the wife if only cash hahaha

Terrible shop, awful prices. Run by an old Italian bloke who is just plain rude. I went in there years ago, knowing what I was after, can't remember what it was now. They didn't have it, so he was determined to try and sell me anything, telling me quite clearly that I didn't know what I was talking about and should buy what he told me too. His wife wasn't any better when she jumped in...

I work in the CBD so have a slightly different experience to people who perhaps drive all the way in to get disappointed :) It's nice to browse if I'm killing time during a lunch break and they leave me alone. Visually it's lovely to see a cram-packed wet shaving shop with lots of displays, IMO.

The guy is a little scary and the woman is a little distracted. They open and close when they want and don't stick to their set times. They make a hell of a pair when you hear them talking. You need to know what you want but, if you do, he will engage you in conversation where your accent ability will be tested. He did up-sell me a 10 pack of Bolzano blades for $19 before I knew what I was doing.. but he's a proper Italian retailer in a very niche business during an economic slump - whatcha-gonna-do? He ripped me off but I learnt and the blades were fine. I actually find them way more friendly than the idiots in the Shaver Shop in Carillon City nearby who know NOTHING about any of their wet shaving stock and give bizarre advice.

What I like: I can walk in and ask for the big tubs of TOBS Peppermint, Jermyn St and Avacado and have someone who not only knows what I'm talking about but actually (1) has them in stock and (2) will let me smell them before purchase. It's also the only chance you get to hold some of the Merkur etc razors you see online and they stock the R41 etc. It's not as cheap as online but I wouldn't expect it to be considering the overheads BUT for your first purchase of a product before you know what you want it's the best we have in Perth. Just don't go there expecting a Groom Room experience and you'll be fine. You're Scottish - they won't throw you :)

Mate I'm not much better to be honest! I'm a very stubborn Scot so I may rub the guy up the wrong way. So other than being a typical Italian I would be able to go in there and have a really good look around without him pissing me off?

You'll be totally fine. Just say you're browsing and they leave you be. Then you can form a plan of attack for what you want to hold, sniff etc. So when you ask you'll look like you know stuff. He's gruff but not psycho :-) The woman doesn't know much about the wet shaving stock.

As much as I am super new to wet shaving I am very well versed and knowledgable on all things wet shaving lol! When I find a hobby I research the arse out of it!!!!

I've got to say that if you have a set of wahl clippers and need them sharpened he does a great job. Can't remember the price but I don't recall it being OTT and they came back cutting better than new...

Never bought anything else there - I agree they can be a bit scary, particularly when they gang up on you with well meaning advice...
